The nation's top military officer said today that the Pentagon is planning for "potential military courses of action" against Iran, criticizing what he called the Tehran government's "increasingly lethal and malign influence" in Iraq.
Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said a conflict with Iran would be "extremely stressing" but not impossible for U.S. forces, pointing specifically to reserve capabilities in the Navy and Air Force.
"It would be a mistake to think that we are out of combat capability," he said at a Pentagon news conference.

With respect, the people of Iran defeated, and erradicated the Seyyeds from their hearts and minds, a long long time ago.
Quite simply, the Seyyeds are digging deeper and deeper in their bunkers, whilst each and everyone has been identified.
The fact that they seem to be holding power, is greatly an illusion. Their authority is baseless, as most of what they want to do financially for Iran, is circumvented.
The cherry on the cake, is of course their pathetic attempt to morally justify their political existance, when true Iranians uniformly abstained.
A strong union of peaceful resistance, has steadly won against the Seyyeds, and they are on very shaky ground indeed. But the world press that supports them, will not say these things; as it is not as exciting as what you say and propose; exciting news sells; and slow non violent regime change does not.
At the end of the day, we all have to live with each other. The new Iran cannot be made on blood. Nothing is sacred enough to justify blood. Life and what it takes to preserve Life, will win. Anything else is a proxy for death wishers.
I hope you are not a death wisher.

by Anonymous21 (not verified) on Sat Apr 26, 2008 10:06 PM PDTYou are right. I am not in iran. I am enjoying the priviledge of living in the United States of America. Happy now? But unlike you coward big mouths I was there in Iean-Iraq fronts all those bloody, sad, and difficults days. Don't preach me about nationalism, patriotism. While all you whimpy liars were hiding in your rat holes I was there in the war fronts. Things that you have heard about them in the news, I have experineced with my flesh and blood.
It is easy to preach about these non-senses. Where was Iranian patriotism when Saddam attacked Iran after the UN resolution 598 was accepted by Khomeini? Iraqi's destroyed all the military division head-quarteres by tanks. All your beloved compatriots were lookng for rat holes in the Shooshtar or Mehran deserts.
The same bullshit was advovcated by Khomeini and Rajaee. "THE REAL WAR STARTS WHEN WE FIRE OUR LAST BULLET". Much before the last bullet The Isalamic gang in Iran accepted the UN resolution after that 2 months of non-stop missile attack of Iraq on Tehran and other big cities. Where you there? Where were your other overzealous compatriots? Tehran was like a ghost town. Life was stopped during those 2 months in Iran.
It is easy for you peace-time warriors to preach about the nationalism or patriotism.
And next time you want to give me an answer, come up with something better than is your family in the proximity of the percison bombs, no they are not. But I hope your family are.

Surgical Attacks on Iran by the U.S. and Israel!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Anonymous-2 (not verified) on Sat Apr 26, 2008 03:18 PM PDTWow! Who are these people advocating such a madhouse diplomacy.
First for your information, I hardly think that the Iranian people regardless of their feeling for the IRI would welcome any surgical strikes on Iran and its infrastructure by anyone! You obviously don't know the Iranian people and their nationalistic fervor. You obviously have lost it, but fortunately they have not!
Second, no surgical strikes are going to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities. U.S. or Israel will have to use tactical nuclear weapons. The massive amount of radiation that will be spread will kill millions of Iranians as well as people in the region.
Obviously, you have not thought about this, or maybe you have and don't really give a damn. If this is the case then shame on you and the likes of you!!
Finally, who the hell is Israel or the U.S. to be given the go ahead to attack Iran to liberate the Iranians?
Israel has no right to attack Iran under any circumstances and neighter does the U.S. or any foreign country for that matter. What kind of a bull shit response was this?
Israel itself is a non-NPT signatory with 200 to 500 nuclear warheads and currently involved in the genocide of the Palestinians let alone the massacres and destruction that it has brought to Lebanon.
We have seen the kind of liberation the U.S. has brought to Iraq and Afghanistan.
I can't believe some of you people are Iranians! You want to liberate a people, the door is wide open for you to personally go and try it in Iran why send Iran's enemies. Any Iranian who wants to liberate the Iranian people should have the courage to go back and start fighting just like they are!
How magnanimous of you to advocate bombing of Iran, while you are sitting in the comfy of your home outside of Iran; whenever you are in Iran please send us a note so that we can ask for surgical strikes. Don't forget to give us your exact location while you are at it.

by Anonymous21 (not verified) on Sat Apr 26, 2008 12:58 PM PDTGrow up buddy. Enough for this San Fraciscan jargon. People are suffereing in Iran. Could Germans get rid of Hitler by General Strike? Could Italians? Can people in Veitnam do that now? Stop hypocracy, say what you have in your mind and say it loud. You like Akhunds? good. There are many people like you posting in this site. Do not pretend that you have a big plan. Your big plan is to keep IRI in power because thanks ot their splendid work every gas station worker in US can afford a luxuary vacation in Iran and showing off to his or her countrymen how especial or blessed he is.
As Mahmoodg said, there is only one solution for the suffering of the Iranian people, careful surgical strike on IRI strong points. And don't preach me the IRAN 101 or other rubishes, Saddam did the same thing and ended the war, Isreal or US can do the same thing and end Iranian people's suffereing.
