Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu has called Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip an "abomination".
He strongly condemned what he called international "silence and complicity" on the blockade, which he compared to the actions of Burma's leaders.
Speaking at the end of a two day mission to the area, the former archbishop said the humanitarian situation there could not be justified.
Earlier, 60 Palestinians were detained in an Israeli raid on northern Gaza.
Residents in the Beit Hanoun area were summoned to a local square by Israeli troops with loudhailers before dozens were taken away, witnesses said.

The banckrupt ideaology of zionism is the source of major problems in the ME and therefore that discussion takes priority over any other.

"Based on contemporary history, after WWII, jews were driven out of Europe"
And you forgot the 1.1M Jews throughout the Gulf & ME whom were driven out from their homes and land between 1948-1960s by local Muslims. Their properties - villas, shops, and land were confiscated, or looted. Most of these Jews ended up being absorbed by their newly created state of Israel.
We also have the "keys" to our villas, and will be happy to swap our properties left in Tehran, Mash-had, Araq, Kashan, Baghdad, Cairo, Damascus and elsewhere, with the land taken from the Pals in Israel.
Your and other posters insult, just demonstrates the bankruptcy of your position. Unable to present a palatable and coherent argument, you resort to insult.
Beside, Iranians seem to have enough internal problems, why you are so worried about the Arabs anyway.
Why don't you spend your time to improve the standard of living in Iran, and gain more freedom of expression there. Instead of trying to be more Palestinian then the Pals themselves.

Re: Occupation of Gaza
by asghar52 (not verified) on Sat May 31, 2008 07:49 PM PDTBased on contemporary history, after WWII, jews were drivesn out of Europe and with military support of US and Britain, occupied the country/state of Palestine. Therefore it is not just Gaza that is occupied. The entire land of palestinians is occupied. Learn your histroy before you speak.
Re: Occupation of Gaza.
by Asghar 52 (not verified) on Sat May 31, 2008 05:07 PM PDTAs far as the history is concerned, the entire country/state of Palestine is occupied by the israelis, not just Gaza. This occupation started with Nazis driving jews out of Europe during WWII. Get your history right before you speak..
Occupation of Gaza.
by Mehdi Mazloom (not verified) on Sat May 31, 2008 02:45 PM PDTthere is no Israeli occupation of Gaza. None. The only occupation there, is the occupation of hate, sense of desparation, and hopelessness instilled in the hearts and mind of the innocent Pals, by Hamas leaders, whom they voted for.
If by now it is not clear, people in WB want nothing to do with Gaza. Gaza and WB will NOT be one Palestinian entity. there will be two Palestinian states. The state Fatahland in the WB, and Federal state of Hamastan in Gaza.

Let occupation end, and there won't be rockets flying. Otherwise, by the Geneva convention, people under siege and under occupation have every right to defend and FIGHT with whatever means they have available to them. If you disagree with international norms, then you may be one of those blood suckers.

No rockets from Gaza on Israeli cities and towns. There won't be Israeli siege of Gaza. Period.
