WASHINGTON, Nov 17 (IPS) - A strategy of threats and "provocations" against Iran by the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama is likely to be counter-productive, according to a new report released here Friday by a group of 20 former top U.S. diplomats and regional experts.
The group, co-chaired by former U.N. Amb. Thomas Pickering and James Dobbins, a top diplomatic troubleshooter under both Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, called instead for the new administration to "open the door to direct, unconditional and comprehensive negotiations at the senior diplomatic level," as well as unofficial contacts and exchanges. >>>Person | About | Day |

by chrome (not verified) on Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:13 AM PSTsmhb: What does AIPAC or Israel have to do with what's good for the Iranian people?
Only the IRI and it's cronies care about such irrelvant wedge issues.

Obama and AIPAC
by smhb on Tue Nov 18, 2008 09:59 AM PSTLets listen to Philip Giraldi, a former CIA officer, who is a contributing editor to The American Conservative and a fellow at the American Conservative Defense Alliance. I chose him for his conservatice credentials as there are some on this site who get severe rashes when zionist manipulation of american polity is analyzed by the left.
His latest article on AIPAC / Israel and the Obama team is posted on:
//www.antiwar.com/orig/giraldi.php?articleid=13773
Also the root causes of 9/11 and those complicit in it are all over the place and there are really some good analysis done by various people on different aspects of 9/11.
For starters check this out:

To those iranian zionists who parade themselves as patriotic iranians all I have to say is that you have no shame.
Mullah's donkey is dead!
by Hajminator on Mon Nov 17, 2008 07:54 PM PSTWhat good can happen in this case is that Mullahs will be put in front of facts and have to change their way of ruling. In my view, the situation wouldn’t be worse for people but I also think that mullahs don’t know how to deal with it and that they aren’t ready to do it. When they knew that Bush would never dialogue with them, their slogans were that they seek unconditional dialogues with US. But now, when they find themselves confronted with this reality it seems that they are avoiding the issue…
of course

by Toofantheoncesogreat (not verified) on Mon Nov 17, 2008 04:13 PM PSTI feel humiliated and hurt by your words.. Why speak with such a sharp tongue?...
Ok.. listen.. Il lower it to 16.50 per membership.. but I aint making videos then... And the nudy pictures must be blurred slightly for excitment..
And as for Obama, like I said, I hope Im wrong.. for the above mentioned reasons off course..
Yek
by American Wife on Mon Nov 17, 2008 03:15 PM PSTI'm here to express my opinion, just like you are. The issue is that you appear to be stating facts... like you KNOW what's going on. To suggest that I go research something you've stated is a little ridiculous. State your case... prove your points. If I disagree, then I would be under the obligation to prove MY points. I could easily say the same thing to you... don't say things unless you know what you're talking about. And IF someone calls on you to prove it, then you bear that responsibility, not me. This isn't a classroom where as you the teacher get to TELL us something and WE have to look it up. I'm not here for you to PROVOKE me to do anything...:-)
I'm here to exchange ideas.. not do your homework for you.
peace out.
Better to research it yourself
by Yek-Irani (not verified) on Mon Nov 17, 2008 02:26 PM PSTIn my not so humble opinion the better way for you or anyone is to go and do some research. Hit the library, read and see many documentaries about 9/11 and draw your own conclusion. I’m not here to convince you one way or another. I’m here to provoke you to do your own research.
Don’t take my word for it. Also don’t say things, if you haven’t really studied the subject.
well Yek... explain yourself.
by American Wife on Mon Nov 17, 2008 01:50 PM PSTIs Bin Laden dead already Do you think no one is looking for him?
If not, why? Are you suggesting someone else is responsible for 9/11? Please explain. I'm all ears and open to any reasonable suggestion? You seem to have your finger on the pulse of what's going on. Please tell us all what's REALLY going on...:-)
It is really funny.
by Yek-Irani (not verified) on Mon Nov 17, 2008 01:20 PM PSTLet’s find Bin Laden. That’s a big laugh. Do you think a 17th centaury man living in caves in Afghanistan could bypass CIA, MOSAD, European intelligence agencies and pull off an operation like 9/11 attacks. If anybody was really looking for BL, he would be dead by now. Saddam had far more sophisticated apparatus and see what happened to him.
The biggest scam in the US is the production of “Democrats vs. Republicans” show.

by American Wife on Mon Nov 17, 2008 12:27 PM PSTTrust me. We will all do whatever is within our power to assure that you will not need to subject yourself to display within Iranian.com.

No, you're right. It's silly to suggest that one party is a warmonger and the other not. I'm just suggesting that Obama will not be led by ill advised advisors promoting war. I firmly belive that Obama is opposed to any action against Iran. It's time to put the name-calling to rest and expect both parties to work together to assure that there will be no more senseless advocating of war against Iran... or anyone else for that matter. I say... concentrate on finding Bin Laden and cooking his goose, once and for all!!!
peace out.
RE: American Wife
by Toofantheoncesogreat (not verified) on Mon Nov 17, 2008 11:35 AM PSTDont take this as an insult, but you think far to simple to be grouping the republicans as the war party, and the democrats as a peace party.
I dont have the names of his advisors on the top of my head, but most of them are "council on foreign relations" dolls, and they have often stated that using "exhausted diplomacy" or, suicide diplomacy to crash the boat, as a first step before war, saves the US its image.
I can very well see it for me that Obama addresses the nation at some distant future, saying that diplomacy has failed, and we have to bomb etc. Not a single liberal, democrat or any other hypocrite that burned Bushes feet, would dare say anything against him.
As such, the man is more dangerous than Bush if he goes this path, not only would there be war, there will be a whole generation of cynics in the US not believing in the US democracy.
If Im wrong, Il gladly post nude pictures off my self on Iranian.com and let people view them for 29,95 per platinum membership after the admin and me comes to an agreement.

by American Wife on Mon Nov 17, 2008 10:44 AM PSTOk... here I am... to correct you if you're wrong. And you are. NO Obama advisor is advocating war. You're blaming the wrong people. That was the REPUBLICANS. I believe Obama is truly interested in dialog. But as Marge says and I hate to disappoint everyone, but Iran is hardly our biggest concern. We know Iran isn't going to do anything unless Israel does something first. And I'm convinced that Israel isn't going to do DIDDLY now that Obama won. You can talk all you want about Obama sucking up to Isreal but the fact is... it ain't true. He's going to tell them to keep their mouth shut and sit tight. He's no fool. He doesn't even WANT to deal with Iran right now. But if he does... I hope it's exactly as he says. No preconditions. No threats of sanctions (which obviously hurt NO ONE but the people). Now is the time for a little nice-nice. Telling everyone to chill out and let's let the dust settle before the next step.
Again, as Marge says...it's the first step.
peace out
Well …
by Yek-Irani (not verified) on Mon Nov 17, 2008 09:20 AM PSTDear Marge, you always look at things on the surface. Why are we in this bad Economic situation? Who were the people you took us to this expensive war? What was their goal? Who has been at the helm of American banking and financial institutions for the past 25 years? And what has been their goal of securitizing bank residential loans into derivatives to make it 100X more liquid?
I think the American people should be concerned about these issues or they will never solve any nothing
P.S. Nobody gives rat’s ass about Ahemadinejad. I’m worried about bombs falling on my mother’s house.
So what? Economy is in shambles. You think Iran matters?
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Mon Nov 17, 2008 09:04 AM PSTHonestly, you think the average American cares about Iran anymore? PEOPLE ARE HOMELESS and LOSING RETIREMENTS.... do you think they give a shit about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Obama shouldn't give a shit either.
Don't be fooled
by Yek-Irani (not verified) on Mon Nov 17, 2008 08:36 AM PSTObama is the same pimp as McCain, Clinton, eta al. He is in the pocket of AIPAC as much as others. Did you forget that the only time he wore a flag label, it was an Israeli flag in front of AIPAC? Obama is more dangerous than McCain, because he can fool people better.
I think it's a first step. Both sides have to say their view
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Mon Nov 17, 2008 07:17 AM PSTFACE TO FACE. Two countries that have been threatening each other like this for years have to talk, even if war seems inevitable. I don't care. I dont want to look back and say "we COULD have talked", but we didn't. That's the brave thing to do.
Ignoring one another and tossing bombs is easy.
Dear friends
by Toofantheoncesogreat (not verified) on Mon Nov 17, 2008 05:35 AM PSTThese people are not Obama advisors, please correct me if Im wrong. The true Obama advisors want to use diplomacy first as a prelude to war, they will say: Iran, stop enriching Uranium. Iran will say: No, Obama will say: I tried, time to bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran. And with Obamas popularity at high order, no one will hold his feet to the fire.
I mean, he's the next Martin Luther King.. right?? Oprah likes him.. He cant possibly do anything wrong..
Standing ovation
by Fred on Mon Nov 17, 2008 01:29 AM PSTPerhaps a standing ovation by the oil backed lobbies followed by some more highly partisan Jim Lobe type opinion pieces masquerading as “reports” would entice the Islamist republic to miraculously change its terroristic nature.
