U.S.-Iraqi Agreement Is Getting Mixed Reviews in Iran

TEHRAN — Conservative Iranian politicians and newspapers have expressed opposition to the new Iraqi-American security agreement and urged Iraq’s Parliament to reject it. But that view was not unanimous. At least one prominent figure, a senior judicial official, has said Iraqi negotiators had done well.  The most critical comment came from the speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Ali Larijani, who said that the United States “was seeking to turn Iraq into one of its states,” IRNA, the official news agency, reported Tuesday.
