WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President George W. Bush said in an interview Monday that the Bible is "probably not" literally true and that a belief that God created the world is compatible with the theory of evolution.
"I think you can have both," Bush, who leaves office January 20, told ABC television, adding "You're getting me way out of my lane here. I'm just a simple president."
But "evolution is an interesting subject. I happen to believe that evolution doesn't fully explain the mystery of life," said the president, an outspoken Christian who often invokes God in his speeches.
"I think that God created the Earth, created the world; I think the creation of the world is so mysterious it requires something as large as an almighty and I don't think it's incompatible with the scientific proof that there is evolution," he told ABC television.
Asked whether the Bible was literally true, Bush replied: "Probably not. No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it."
"The important lesson is 'God sent a son,'" he said.

IRANdokht aziz, yes aziz it
by Farhad Kashani on Fri Dec 12, 2008 05:42 AM PSTIRANdokht aziz, yes aziz it matters, and trust me, time will tell, just wait. Because some of us lost track of what really matters and what the real issue is when we engaged in this irrational bush bashing. Like you said yourself, there is a difference between calling someone a "hypocrite" and calling someone a "religious freak". then, we can't tell what the issues are, for example, why the Iraq war started, was it because he and his bearucracy failed, or was it because he was a "crusader". If we think he was a crusader, then, its easy for IRI and others who are the center of causing chaos in the world to get away with murder, and we let them get away with murder because we lost track. I have an article coming up, if you like, read it. Ghorbanat aziz.

by IRANdokht on Wed Dec 10, 2008 06:39 PM PSTwhy is it relevent if he is religious or he pretends to be one when he takes actions to satisfy the nutjobs who voted for him and sends the young americans to get killed so his boss can make $ out of contracts?
The idiots you are talking about saw him for what he did: his "actions", now does it matter if he's really a nut or he lies and only says that he's a nut? his actions spoke volume and he does not deserve your defending him and definitely not insulting others who were not wrong about him.
Please do not allow your hate for IRI to affect your judgment and common sense. Bush was and is a lying cheating hypocrite who ruined this country and the world. Now why does it matter who says that? why do you have to defend him just because you don't like some ID's on this site?

IRANdokht and Jahanshah
by Farhad Kashani on Wed Dec 10, 2008 06:13 PM PSTIRANdokht and Jahanshah aziz, definitely not insulting you guys, you guys are my pals! But remember, being a hypocrite is different from being a "religious nutjob". I never voted for him, nor I'm his fan, however, many people made mistakes in their calculations, and the truth is coming out now. He is NOT a religious freak like many people thought he was, but that was the popular belief among some. And the worst part was when someone like me who is a non-religious liberal tried to explain that, we would be labeled with things like "right wing extremist, and Republican nutjob, and Islam hater,,and things like that". So its not about Bush, its about those few Iranians on this site who are pro IRI leftist loonies who criticized Bush not because they cared for this country and wanted things better, because they saw a moment of weakness in America so they can promote their Islamist leftist ideology on the expense of the Iranian people and this great country.
If we make mistakes in our calculations, we can't understand the truth. For example, we would think that he attacked Afghanistan because he is looking for a "crusade because he is a religious nutjob", not because AL Qaeda in Afghanistan attacked the U.S. So, we get off the right track like that. Thats my point. Many many people just bought in the popular culture belief that Bush is this and that, thus, not being able to find out what the real problems were.
ok... but
by American Wife on Tue Dec 09, 2008 03:21 PM PSTDare I say it? I... man, this is hard to say. In a way, I sorta kinda, almost, maybe, in a way, understand, and/or agree with him. There... I said it!
It's hard as an educated person to reconcile the science of evolution with the bible and a religious faith but... there it is. My own personal dilemma.
(ps... just don't tell anyone...ok? :-)
Dear Farhad
by IRANdokht on Tue Dec 09, 2008 02:46 PM PSTYou see this hypocrite changing his colors at the end of his second term, now instead of seeing him for what he really is, you're using the super titles to call all of us idiots!
No we're not idiots, he changed his mind because now he doesn't need the far right evangelical votes anymore. What he thinks or says now is completely irrelevent and so is he!
Please stop insulting us for having known who he is all along.

by Jahanshah Javid on Tue Dec 09, 2008 02:15 PM PSTNow that he's leaving office, he's warming up to the idea of evolution. Never too late to stop being an ignorant idiot, I guess!
