Pope Benedict XVI has paid tribute to 17th-Century astronomer Galileo Galilei, whose scientific theories once drew the wrath of the Catholic Church. The Pope was speaking at events marking the 400th anniversary of Galileo's earliest observations with a telescope. He said an understanding of the laws of nature could stimulate appreciation of God's work.

just thought of an old joke
by American Wife on Wed Dec 24, 2008 10:33 AM PSTJesus was walking along one day, when He came upon a group of people surrounding a lady of ill repute. It was obvious that the crowd was preparing to stone her, so Jesus made His now-famous statement, "Let the person who has no sin cast the first stone."
The crowd was shamed and one by one began to turn away. All of a sudden, a lovely little woman made her way through the crowd. Finally getting to the front, she tossed a pebble towards the woman.
Jesus looks over and says, "I really hate it when you do that, Mom."
Dear AW,
by Killjoy (not verified) on Tue Dec 23, 2008 04:16 PM PSTNow I know why my granddaughter has one in her room.
Being one fifth Irish she must be proud of her dad's heritage!
We did perform bloodletting on her to make her pure Persian but to no avail!
I think I'll get her a UN flag, one of these days.
Thanks for the response.

A Bit Too Late!
by Killjoy (not verified) on Mon Dec 22, 2008 05:30 PM PSTEven historically speaking this move has come very, very late. But we know in Italy, as in Iran things happen slowly!
To AW:
Why is your Indian flag displayed, sideways? Where's the emblem in the center?
I've been wondering about that for quite some time, now!
see, even the Pope can admit a mistake
by American Wife on Mon Dec 22, 2008 02:50 PM PSTNow if only we mere humans could do as well.
Thanks!
about time! :0)
by IRANdokht on Mon Dec 22, 2008 09:12 AM PSTI guess if the evidence is too overwhelming you have no choice but to accept the facts! Even for Pope Benedict...
Thanks DK! that bit of news started my work day on the right track ;-)
