A life-long Democrat, he served as foreign policy adviser to Hubert Humphrey in his failed 1968 presidential campaign, and served in the White House under president Jimmy Carter in the National Security Council in 1977 and 1978.

Those who were worried they would be deprived of reasons to rape a pillage the world, once the good old USSR was gone, were given a salvation gift by Huntington.  The neo-cons/bushies took his ideas, which were expressed soley in an intellectual context, and "extracted" exactly what they wanted them to mean in order to keep the Wall Street and the proverbial military industrial comlex in business as usual.
