Obama's Iran Strategy is Not Appeasement

To draw parallels between Chamberlain's foreign policy failures and Obama's attempt to engage our enemies is patently unfair and irresponsible. To understand why, it's critical to have some modern context. We've just been through eight years of disengagement by the Bush administration. We had a reckless, testosterone-starved Jesus-driven cowboy march into the White House declaring Iran, South Korea and Iraq the "Axis of Evil". From virtually the get-go, Bush's foreign policy strategy could be summed up in just a few short words: U.S. good, everyone else bad, enemies really bad.

The bottomline is that Obama is trying to please mullahs and that "softness' will only cause mullahs to add to their list of UNENDING demands.

Just what exactly can the Mullahs demand from the United States?

Appeasement suggests submission. What has the USA surrendered?

Obama just extended economic sanctions against Iran for another year. I would hardly call that "appeasement" regardless of his recent "Let's get re-acquainted" video. The only people accusing Obama of being "too soft" on Iran are the usual neocon suspects who have been lecturing American citizens on foreign policy and especially Iran policy for years.

It's a minor point but Andy Astroy meant of course that North Korea was included in Bush's Axis of Evil rather than South Korea. The Americans have troops stationed in South Korea today and have had for years.

This type of jarring mistake occurs rather often at Huffingtonpost. I wish Arianna would hire a few editors and proofreaders with that $25 Million gift she just received from investors in the Israeli armaments industry.
