Did Obama bow to the King of Saudi Arabia, at the G 20 Summit, in a gesture of respect or not ! If so it would be an unfortunate blunder after Michelle Obama's gaffe with the Queen of England where she apparently held her arm around Her Majesty's waist ...

Obama the Bow
by DW Duke on Mon Apr 06, 2009 08:10 AM PDTPerhaps Obama's gesture was a over-reaction to constantly seeing the former President Bush holding hands with the king. As far as Michelle putting her arm around the queen's waist, I thought "so what? The queen is a human being just like everyone else. She eats, she sleeps, she uses restroom facilities etc. Now if Michelle had smacked her on the fanny, that would have been a gaffe." :)
Nice one DK

Hello Mehrban jan
it's true, he gave her an iPod with the footage of her visit from US. She gave him a framed picture of herself and her husband. Now which one is more lame? toss a coin ;-)

It does
by Mehrban on Fri Apr 03, 2009 05:55 PM PDTlook awkward, I admit, you are right! He is new at all this, I am sure a lot of it is overwhelming. Actually I prefer if he errs on the side of humility than arrogance. He will probably get the hang of it soon.
On the Ipod for the queen???, if it is true then, "off with her head"!
Hi Irandokht, it is nice to see you.

But Well It does kind of shakes the traditions.
As for the Bowing in front of the King of Saudi Arabia, it looks kinda clumsy given that a State Leader is not meant to bow in front of another leader. For each are supposed to represent their own countrymen and women at large.
Obama the President is NOT supposed to behave like Obama the private Citizen.
The Problem is that when in the public eye, such gestures can be interpreted differently by different nationalities and I am a little surprised by some of the PR gaffes made by their advisors like for the Hillary Clinton Gaffe or the fact that the American delegation was not informed on the type of gift that could be given to the Queen ( She already had an Ipod). The gifts by the way do not belong to the Queen or President but to their respective libraries and therefore to the State.
Elisabeth is such an institution that many tend to think that she is their grandma or something like that. The Worst behaviour I have seen was from Bush who put his arm around her shoulder as if she was some kind of "Cowgirl Buddy" ... ;0)

by IRANdokht on Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:37 AM PDTWould you say that Michelle Obama's friendliness with the Queen was a gaffe too? Appaently, the queen herself didn't think so!
I think they're just being friendly and courteous to all. I would rather see the US President show respect in greetings than take a walk hand in hand with the guy, or decide to rub Angela Merkel's shoulders and freak her out...
IRANdokht
PS: Why did the reset button become Obama's gaffe? I'd write that on Hillary's resume! ;-)
I love Obama But ... ;0)
by Darius Kadivar on Fri Apr 03, 2009 09:49 AM PDTHe seems to have some bad counselors and PR people these days misleading him. Two Gaffes in a row including another one for Hillary Clinton and her Soviet Counterpart to whom she offered a Reset Button but with the wrong translation ... ;0)
Like the Brits Say it: Shocking ! ;0)
