"We're going to have to end up accepting some kind of peaceful Iranian nuclear energy program - and they actually need it; it's already too late to stop it entirely. That's why it is so important to establish a relationship with Iran in which they accept international inspection and obey international law," he said. "For that to happen, there has to be a discussion of some overarching security architecture for the region that includes both Israel and the Arabs, but before that can even be considered there has to be Arab-Israel reconciliation."
>>>
"The only viable solution is dialogue. You don't deal with Iran with threats or preaching regime change," said Weissman, who has lived in Iran, knows Farsi (as well as Arabic, Turkish and French) and wrote his doctoral dissertation at the University of Chicago on Iranian history. That's where the Bush administration went wrong, in his view."
If the Iran expert at APAC says so, who is Yabu to neigh No!

Aggar bandeh ja-e' shommah boodam, aa-val fekr mi-kardam, ba-aadan harf mizadam bar-sedeh kessi-digge'.
While I certainty respect Weizman view and read his comment. I have my sources in Hebrew and in English. Sources like this:
Israel's Institude of Nationanl Security;
//www.inss.org.il/research.php?cat=3&incat=&r...
all publicly opine the same. It is next to impossible to stop the IRI's nuclear activities by military operation.
As I have repeated before, I hope and pray we will not get to the point of military operation. Israeli leaders may be Yaboo (I like this name for bibi), BUT they are not stupid. Unlike the Mullahs in tehran who most likely did not experienced combat, leaders like Bibi and Barak are decorated military solders, with elite commando units with real experience. These s.o.bs know Israel's real military capabilities, They would not talk hot air if they were not absolutely sure IDF & IAF could accomplish its objectives. Otherwise, they would compromise Israel credibility as the superpower in the region.
Also, Israel has some of the best experts on Iran, and this regime in particular. They also speak farsi, and many (like Mofaz) also grew up in Iran.
Kaveh,
I just read your input below.
Thanks for the your input. Yep, I do know, Irandokh(tar) seem to know more about other then themselves would know.
You see, when we demonstrate that, we know great deal more about them, then they know about us, they all get their noses out of joint, and resort to the usual insults.
Oh well, they can insult all they wish. we will handle them case by case.
Ok, so the man says
by Kaveh Nouraee on Wed May 20, 2009 02:39 PM PDTthat a military option isn't an option. Well, well, well, I seem to recall saying that as well, even if I stated it for reasons other than what is stated in this article.
Weissman's ability to speak Farsi and several other languages seems to make some people fawn over him but it does not make the man immune to questions about his opinions when warranted.
Mehdi, you're debating some people who are interested in their own monologue rather than a dialogue. If you say something they dislike, they'll move to delete you like a computer virus, but it's perfectly acceptable for them to attack you for your beliefs. When they resort to that, it speaks volumes.
Thanks Mehrnaz

Now on Weissman:
Weissman, who has lived in Iran, knows Farsi (as well as Arabic, Turkish and French) and wrote his doctoral dissertation at the University of Chicago on Iranian history.
ok no surprise there, if a guy has been to Iran, studied Iran and knows how to speak Farsi and a few other languages, they should not be even arguing with him about his views. He had to know the region to be a spy...

by 1L on Wed May 20, 2009 10:28 AM PDTDude the article isnt even about the israeli-PA conflict... The article just shows that some in your camp are even realizing that a military option is not viable. Now traitor, come around and stop changing the subject. You are your kind are testament to the fact that your people will always be questionable in terms of loyalty to their nations. No wonder theres a trial involving your kind and espionage every decade in the US. Sickens me

by Mehdi Mazloom on Wed May 20, 2009 09:05 AM PDTthe whole conflict is really has less to do with land, as much as mind set. The ideology by which one group perceives others, and itself.
Who's the hell decided that, Islam being the 3rd religion in the region, is sole custodian and outright sovereign land for Muslims, where two other religion (Jewish and Christianity) are subservient to Islam. Why non-Muslims should accept this paradigm, and live as second citizen to Muslims. This is what Israelis like me can not understand,or even phantom
You know!, if Arab & Islamic countries in the region where a dominant one in all area of human development, and progress (as much as the west is today), one can make the palatable argument, "they bring progress and improvement to quality of life, etc". That ended 1000 years ago.
Do you see the fault line here.?
Thank you Mehrnaz jan
by Jaleho on Wed May 20, 2009 09:04 AM PDTfor the good article, And that, from Jpost ;-)
Our AIPAC-Israeli spy also says:
"There is no viable military option for dealing the Iranian nuclear threat, and efforts by the Israeli government and its supporters to link that threat to progress in peace with the Palestinians and Syria are "nonsense" and an obstacle to the Arab-Israeli and international cooperation essential to changing Iranian behavior. "
I have a feeling that much to Mr. Weisman's chagrin though, Israel would be hit on the neck to FIRST cough up a bit of the stolen land back to SYRIANS; after the failure of that gesture to prevent Iran's nuclear development, then Israel will be told by its American masters to just shut up and and digest Iranian nuclear reality.
I guess they can continue to bark among themselves a bit more before Iranian election direct them to a more unified voice ;-)

by Abarmard on Wed May 20, 2009 04:19 AM PDTYou are correct. I would like to ask, and not to make a point, if in history there have been a time that the entire region would be bad or wrong and one country would be right.
Happy Wednesday
Is he an AIPAC?he sounds more reasonable than a lot of anti IRIs
by gol-dust on Tue May 19, 2009 11:18 PM PDTSo they can actually be reasonable? They are not that crazy after all. They are after their own powers! See how politics works!

speaking of goons
by Mehdi Mazloom on Tue May 19, 2009 06:28 PM PDTIn these days, it is hard to distinguish between genuine information, and disinformation. Is it all designed to confuse and get the Akhooooondah off balance, we never know.
All what American need (and do) see is. one tiny state in a vast ocean of hostile enemies, which for past 60 years, it has been fighting for its survival as sovereign and independent homeland for the Jews.
They saw the outcome of WWII which produced more then 130M refugees throughout the world. Since then, all have been settled elsewhere, in new homes and countries - ALL EXCEPT the Pals. Why the only country in which Pals live in democracy with civil rights are thee one who live in Israel. While their brethern throughout the Arab & Islamic state are still kept in refugee camps.?
AIPAC
by smhb on Tue May 19, 2009 05:16 PM PDTMehrnaz,
These AIPAC goons and their stooges amongst the elite have only one mission and thats to keep the American public ignorant and misinformed when it comes to the ME, specifically on the Palestinian issue and any state that poses a potential threat to their dominance in the area under imperialist tutelage. What they fail to grasp is that they lost the battle when the shah was overthrown.
Games up.
