It’s one thing to steal an election, another to steal it with the effrontery and ruthlessness apparent here in recent days. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader, said “the miraculous hand of God” was evident in the “great epic” of the election. I guess that’s one way of explaining results of an implausible strangeness. Later, perhaps playing for time, Khamenei said the Guardian Council, which oversees elections, should seriously investigate claims of irregularities.
