This tactic has historic precedence. In the uprising of July 9, 1999, the government organized parallel rallies along ongoing demonstrations. The end result was quashing of one group of people by the one supported by the government. The Human Rights Activists in Iran Association believes that the call for rally of government supporters that will undoubtedly include undercover plain-clothed special and paramilitary forces is a tactic to quash the peaceful demonstrations by proxy.
There is a real fear that the government will reach its objective of avoiding a response to its people by placing pro-government supporters and paramilitary forces in disguise before the peaceful demonstrators and use the people against themselves while evading its own responsibilities and commitments to the people. The only party responsible for the bloody outcome of manipulating people as instruments to facilitate the government’s objectives is the government itself.
