“There could have been a very easy political solution, and that would have been nullifying the election results, but they have refused to do that so far,” said Mashalah Shamsolvaezin, a political analyst in Tehran. “Postponing the resolution means they want the military to find the solutions,” he said, referring to the Revolutionary Guards, not the army.

Big crackdown ahead in Iran

by Ali Lakani on

I agree that they might be buying time to prepare for a major crackdown on a large group of people.  Already there is news that some of the reformists arrested, such as Mostafa Tajzadeh and Abdollah Ramezanzadeh, are under heavy interrogation and torture to "confess" to plans to overthrow the government.

there will not be a crackdown provided

The government and Rahbar abhore bloodshed as much as any other human being. They are not bloodthirsty tyrants. They do not rule like Stalin who in two major purges got rid of all opposition, millions of them. They are not like the Chinese leaders who will show no mercy if their people get out of line.
However, if the protests, and it is ok to protest peacefully, becomes taken over by the extremists of the so-called reformists' camp, as the election itself was hijacked by them, then the silent majority will have no choice. Beleive me their determination to sustain the IRI is greater than the opposition's to overthrow it.

Either way a heavy crack down will occur

Just to set an example for others not to even think about questionning Khameneii's decision AGAIN in the future.

Big crackdown even if Moussavi is chosen as president

by Worried (not verified) on

I am afraid there will be major crack down even if the "election" is annuled, or votes recounted and Moussavi is chosen as president and there will be nothing Mr. Moussavi, Karrubi, Khatami or other "Reformists" would be able to do to stop it!
and Moussavi's 4 or 8 years will be even more frustrating and disappointing than Khatami's!

Judiciary and other centers of power are run and firmly controlled by hardliners and ther ain't nohting those gentlemen would be able to do about it!

I am afraid we are going to see crane after crane with young people hanging from them on charges of inciting mutiny and violence and so many televised confessions of the so called "ZIONIST", "British" and "U.S." spies. IR will build more prions and so many people will be kidnapped, arrested, tortured and killed like Omid Reza Mir Sayafi and Akbar Mohammadi!

They will do all that to set an example and frighten people not to even think about potesting for their rights again!

God help us all and give those young souls courage and strength to fight and send that evil regime to oblivion!
