Yes this is bad news
by Niloufar Parsi on Sun Jun 21, 2009 03:43 AM PDTbut it's still early days. the assembly has the regime's survival as its main priority, and it would remove khamenei if necessary. If i remember right, the legal grounds for removal of the leader include 'poor health', 'insanity' and 'poor political judgement' (i.e. bad decisions leading to the regime's survival being threatened).
actually, khamenei qualifies for all 3!
Latest from Khobregan
by Masoud Kazemzadeh on Sat Jun 20, 2009 10:10 PM PDTthis came today from Majles Khobregan AFTER Khamenei's speech.
//www.mehrnews.com/fa/newsdetail.aspx?NewsID=899635
this is very good news for Khamenei and Ahmadinejad. It shows that Rafsanjani does not have the majority support in Khobregan. I think it means either surrender by Mousavi-Khatami-Rafsanjani or bloodshed.
If Mousavi-Khatami-Rafsanjani back down, would the people follow them or would the people continue their struggles? Would another leadership emerge?
True
by David ET on Sat Jun 20, 2009 08:32 PM PDTActually since then I found out this is a letter from the Dabir of assembly but not all of them. Not that the majority there are any different.
I think Rafsanjani is head of that assembly. I am sure you agree that people can not rely on any part of this regime to come to their support.
and you are right, many are trying to keep a little distance from Ahamdinejad to cover themselves in future.

David, interesting that
by Niloufar Parsi on Sat Jun 20, 2009 05:50 PM PDTthe letter does not mention ahmadinejad nor does it congratulate him otherwise. could it be that they have decided to dump him?
also, it is dated 2 days ago, and appears to be an appeal to the people to follow the leader's guidance in preparation for his disastrous sermon yesterday. well they haven't. so what is the assembly going to do next?
