CAIRO — The streets of Iran have been largely silenced, but a power struggle grinds on behind the scenes, this time over the very nature of the state itself. It is a battle that transcends the immediate conflict over the presidential election, one that began 30 years ago as the Islamic Revolution established a new form of government that sought to blend theocracy and a measure of democracy.

From the beginning, both have vied for an upper hand, and today both are tarnished. In postelection Iran, there is growing unease among many of the nation’s political and clerical elite that the very system of governance they rely on for power and privilege has been stripped of its religious and electoral legitimacy, creating a virtual dictatorship enforced by an emboldened security apparatus, analysts said.

Among the Iranian president’s allies are those who question whether the nation needs elected institutions at all.

Of the two sources that author of this article have cited, Mr. Sahimi is a long time associate of VoA TV (a CIA outfit). I don't know the other (Nafisi) who apparently resides in london.

The more I read of these fake "Democrats" characters here at IRANIAN.com the more I am convinced that Mr. Rish Kosh, Annonymous111, Fred, Farhad Kashani and et al are the very thing they often accuse others to be. They are all the same person with multiple aliases. You ask why, it is very simple, they all attempt to put IRI down but raise Israel, they seem unable to carry out a discussion focusing on articles presented, they are into shooting charactors and bellow the waist accusations and in general cheap shots. Funny, they all claim they want "Democracy" for Iran. I am sure it will be the same Democracy given to Egyptians, Jordanians and the Iraqis with a stamp of approval from Tel Aviv.

Thanks for the information.

I did not say he works for the CIA. I said he participated in VOA TV discussions (and as we all know VoA is a CIA TV). There are IRI government people who participate in VoA TV interviews (via telephone from Tehran). I cannot swear that they are CIA agents. Although I don't know.  Do you?

Sahimi has appeared exactly three times on the VoA, each time advocating participation in the election, negotiations with the US, opposition to war and sanctions. Twice he "debated" with two Shahollahi imbeciles, and once with Hasan Daei, the well-known ch.... Each time he participated in the program, it was only to convey the message to those watching in Iran that there are Iranians in the US that are opposed to the garbage shown on VoA.

You have no shame to associate him indirectly with the CIA.

I think Rish Kosh is right. I think the Iranians are forgiving decent people and they may let you live your miserable life to the end. You know what, even the Americans may let you move and live somewhere here in US. you however need to be very worried about CIA then.
