Washington, 4 August (WashingtonTV)—Japan’s Prime Minister Taro Aso congratulated Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the official start of his second term in office, Iranian media reported on Tuesday.

Leaders from the United States, Britain, France and Germany have no plans to congratulate Ahmadinejad ahead of his swearing-in, which is scheduled for tomorrow.

However, Japan’s prime minister and foreign minister felicitated the Iranian president, whose re-election was officially endorsed by Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Monday. >>>

News to me! Here in Japan, Kyodo Tsushin is reporting it as the IRNA saying that Prime Minister Aso sent a letter of congratulations. No credible Japanese or Western source seems to exist for this story. See the following in Japanese.  //sankei.jp.msn.com/world/mideast/090804/mds0908042228004-n1.htm
