The European Union warned Iran on Friday that it could face confrontation and tougher sanctions if Tehran refused to negotiate on its nuclear program.
Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, said that the 27-nation bloc was keen to restart talks with the Islamic Republic, despite the political turmoil there following June’s presidential election.
“If they are willing to engage with us, we are ready to cooperate with them. If they decide to go for confrontation, then confrontation will happen,” he told reporters, as he arrived for informal talks with his EU counterparts in Stockholm, according to the Associated Press.
