Similarly, neoconservative Middle East scholar Martin Kramer insinuated several months ago that Iranian-Americans are not to be trusted on issues related to Iran. At a panel at this spring’s AIPAC conference with fellow Iran hawk Michael Rubin, Kramer noted that many Iranian-Americans still have family in Iran, and suggested that they could therefore be easily intimidated into backing the regime. Describing the arrest (and subsequent release) of scholar Haleh Esfandiari while visiting family in Iran, Kramer argued as follows:
"The entire episode suggests the ways in which Iran can have behind the scenes leverage over Iranian Americans, many of whom occupy key positions in the think tanks and are even being brought now into the administration…What this means is that we have to be extremely cautious about what we take away from Iranian diaspora communities when it comes to understanding Iran. Many of these communities desperately want access to their own country. And it dramatically tilts their analysis toward accommodation."

Who was found guilty as an Israeli Spy?
by Abarmard on Sun Nov 01, 2009 07:38 PM PSTRecently? An Iranian?
Cerainly not the first time. This kind of action comes after all the free money and weapons are send their way. I wouldn't worry about bunch of low life spies making comments.
Where does the real danger lie?
by OmidKarimi on Sun Nov 01, 2009 04:37 PM PSTIranian americans? Or jewish neo fanatical zionist christian maniacs who cant see their own hypocrisy? A simple question should be answered right back to this man, do you hold loyalty to Israel first? Or the USA.

HYPOCRACY AT AIPAC
by aya-toilet on Sun Nov 01, 2009 04:00 PM PSTThe irony of these comments are that every one of these AIPAC members carry Israeli passports. When it comes to behind the scenes leverage Israel trumps everyone!! Israel, itself, provides no enhancement to US national security or interests...its a dessert land in the middle of nowhere with no natural resources that the US needs. Anyone, with clear, unbiased thinking knows this. Yet US foreign policy and support has been twisted in favor of Israel ...
By the way, this is not an anti-Israeli statement. Its simply a matter of setting the facts straight. As for which Iranian-American actually has influence? I am not sure there's even one Iranian-American with any real influence on US policy...Iran and Iranians are badly misunderstood...US foreign policy for the region needs a complete overhaul. Unfortunately, it is these same dual passport Israeli-Americans that are setting the policy NOT Iranian-Americans.

Kramer is a big neocon warmongerer. If the Chalabi-type Iranians advocate war and sanctions he will be the first to endorse their superficial views and call them the "real" Iranian opposition.
What Iranians have to do to
by benross on Sun Nov 01, 2009 10:12 AM PSTWhat Iranians have to do to tell U.S what to do anyway? We have to mind our own business, and as an organized community, tell them what we want. Not what they do. This organized community is not exclusive to Iranian residents in U.S. It is for all Iranians, primary abroad. So we should tell all countries what we want. They do what they do.
We have to get out of this colonial and cold war era of 'master-servant' mentality.
