A US federal appeals court has ruled that a Canadian man cannot sue the US after he was held at a New York airport and then transferred to Syria, where he alleges he was tortured.
Maher Arar, a Syrian-born software engineer, was detained by US authorities during a stopover in New York while heading home to Canada in 2002, and then sent to Syria because he was suspected of having links to al-Qaeda.
Arar says he was held in a Syrian jail for almost a year and that he was beaten and whipped with electrical cables during his detention.
In a 7-4 vote on Monday, the US court of appeals for the Second Circuit agreed with a lower court that Arar could

Shah Gholam, Even if we
by Farhad Kashani on Tue Nov 03, 2009 06:05 PM PSTShah Gholam,
Even if we believe the cockamamie story that this guy is not subscribed to the Jihadi movement, this would be one of the few instances of law not taking its course in the American system of justice which is a model for its fairness and accuracy.
Now how about the system of law in your beloved IRI and the medieval laws applied to Iranian citizens in Iran? Contrary to American judicial system, if an Iranian receives fair treatment and gets his rights, that’s abnormal, since the system under IRI is built, openly, on prejudice, on bias, on violating human rights laws, on discrimination against women, ethnic and religious minority, gays..You name it!
But I don’t see ever criticizing IRI law, why is that Shah Gholam?
I guess according to the Left, only Islamists have the right to fair trial because they are anti American! That’s why the Left has turned blue shouting for Guantanamo, This Syrian guy, and Marwa Al Sharbini in Germany, however, people like Neda Sultan and the millions and millions of other brave people around the world who are fighting the Isalmists dying for their rights, are ignored, cause they are not shouting anti American slogans! No Leftist ever asks for IRI to stop oppressing people, or for Taliban to stop killing innocent people, or far Shite and Sunni extremists to stop butchering people in Iraq, Yemen, …oh right, I forgot, the Taliban is a “Zionist conspiracy”!
The Left really thinks people don’t see their hypocrisy!
What a surperise? Just laughable
