Swiss voters have supported a referendum proposal to ban the building of minarets, official results show.
More than 57% of voters and 22 out of 26 cantons - or provinces - voted in favour of the ban.
The proposal had been put forward by the Swiss People's Party, (SVP), the largest party in parliament, which says minarets are a sign of Islamisation.
The government opposed the ban, saying it would harm Switzerland's image, particularly in the Muslim world.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Tue Dec 01, 2009 09:00 AM PSTI hear the moon is made of Swiss cheese. How about sending these guys there! I don't think there are any restrictions on building minarets out there.
Re; Good for Swiss
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Tue Dec 01, 2009 08:57 AM PSTI agree. The last thing Switzerland needs is a bunch of frothing at the mouth Islamists. Bernard Kouchner is a hypocrite and should mind his own business. France already did enough harm by providing Khomeini a platfrom then flying him to Iran. They should just stay out of this one.
The only minarets I like are the "minar jonbon".
As for the Mufti's "Mufti ha kheili harfeh moft mizanan".
