Islamic regime couldn't last

by benross on

Islamic regime couldn't last 3 years if it wasn't for Saddam. The 'blessing of God' as Khomeini called it, and extending the war as long as he could.

The new generation in Iran is the fruit of that period, which allowed the regime to cleanse the society from secular discourse. I don't think any government is that stupid to take military action against Iran. The sanctions -if any- are to pressure IRI on nuclear issue. U.S is smarter than that to fall on provocations of IRI for increasing the level of hostility. Iranians need less foreign tension and more moral support for their struggle and they particularly need more time, which is on their side.

IRI wants to take away this advantage form Iranian people:time to regroup. It will fail.

It absolutely is, Vildemose

Hi Vildemose:

Nothing would make the Iranian government happier right now than a military attack or a huge set of sanctions against Iran.  They would absolutely thrive with the idea, as they will be able to deflect attention from the military coup which took place in Iran in June, their utter failure in managing the economy, and the brutal ways in which they are treating the innocent citizens of Iran.  The worst killings in the contemporary Iranian history, the mass executions of political prisoners in the 1980's, happened while the Iran-Iraq War was going on, and no one learned about it because the country had slipped into a deep state of isolation as a result of the War.  During that same time, also, the Islamic Republic which had started to govern on shaky grounds, having lost its footing several times, established its reign and remained intact.

If you follow Iranian news, you would have noticed that during the Ahmadinejad era there has been incessant nostalgic talk about the "olden times," the war days, by the military men who are now ruling Iran.  They wish to take it back to those days when they ruled without international attention to their doings and without a peep out of the frightened and overwhelmed people of Iran.

An attack on Iran would be the miracle that could save the Islamic Republic of Iran, at least that's what they think.  Some sanctions are welcome by them, too, because they divert the nation's attention from the severe and stupidty-induced economic problems at home, enabling IRI to blame it all on the west for the sanctions.  Regarding fuel sanctions, I doubt IRI could survive them, no matter how much they like to posture and b.s.  Without fuel, the power plants and refineries and general transportation would come to its knees and what little is left of Iranian industry would cease.

War is a very lucrative business for many, Vildemose.  A lot of businesses and governments benefit in the destruction and fear that a war generates.  The only losers are ordinary citizens.

Yes it is but why do you

by vildemose on

Yes it is but why do you those who are pro-war and sanctions care about what's good for Iranians? Have you ever thought that what's good for Hakemiat in Iran is good for the war profiteers too?
