Iran launches new cruise missile production line

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran on Sunday launched a new production line of highly accurate, short range cruise missiles capable of evading radar, state TV reported.

The report quoted Iranian defense minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi as saying that the Nasr 1 (Victory) would be capable of destroying targets up to 1,000 tons in size.

The missile can be launched from the surface but would eventually be modified to be fired from helicopters and submarines, he said.

Gen. Vahidi said it took some two years for an Iranian expert to develop the production line and it would strengthen Iran's naval power.

Iran frequently makes announcements about new advances in military technology that cannot be independently verified.

Iran began a military self-sufficiency program in 1992, under which it produces a large range of weapons, including tanks, medium range missiles, jet fighters and torpedoes.

Aha!

Not surprised to see the self proclaimed anti Iran crowd who are as usual showing their love for their nation's progress in military technology!

Hasood Hargez Nayasood describes the situation here very well!

No Fear

Ofcourse Iran produces its own cruise missiles.

Problem of credibility? Have you been asleep during the lebanon war? Have you forget it was an Iranian version (Noor ) of the c-802 chinese model ( Iran copied the design from a 1996 purchase but built it by its own later ) hit a Israeli vessel, a Saar 5-class missile ship named the "Spear" ?

"...the ship is one of the most technologically advanced in the Israeli fleet, boasting an array of Harpoon and Gabriel missiles, along with a system for electronically jamming attacking missiles and other threats..."

Israel claims their radersystem, and the jamming systems were OFF during the war with lebanon! Do you believe their claim or do you believe the missile had radar evading capabilities? Which is the most reasonable case?

Problem of credibility

I would love to believe that Iran builds all these things, and this would be great no matter who is in power.

The problem is, how does one believe the boy who keeps crying wolf, as is clearly depicted by this same writer:

"Iran frequently makes announcements about new advances in military
technology that cannot be independently verified."

For example, Iran routinely claims that it manufactures fighter planes, when it does no such thing.  This is by now indisputable, but consistently lied about anyway.

Some other questionable parts of this:

-destroy targets up to 1000 tons?  That is tiny, it is just like a patrol boat, not even a corvette.

"Gen. Vahidi said it took some two years for an Iranian expert to develop
the production line"

ONE expert?  A "production line" is not the work of one expert.  What is this guy talking about?

By the way, "General" Vahidi is also an internationally wanted terrorist and cannot travel outside Iran.
