TEHRAN, Apr. 3 (Mehr News Agency) -- FIFA banned the Iranian women's football team wearing hijab from participating in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) which will be held from August 14 to 26 in Singapore.
FIFA at first invited the Iranian team to take part in the games but unexpectedly decided to forbid wearing hijab (Islamic covering) in the games.
President of Iran Football Federation Ali Kafashian wrote a request to the world football governing body to reconsider their decision.
He pointed out that due to religious beliefs the Iranian women team will participate in the competitions only if they are allowed to observe the Islamic dress code.
Altogether 170 countries are expected to participate in the 2010 Youth Summer Olympics. About 3,500 athletes and 875 accompanying persons are expected to participate in the games. Each country will send at least four athletes.

I agree
by Tantrix on Tue Apr 06, 2010 02:30 PM PDTThose women are forced to wear the hijabs, so stop blaming the FIFA, they don't and shouldn't tollerate this.
This isn't anti-Iranian, this is anti-islamic. It would happen the same to a Christian Theocracy government who forces women to wear nun caps all the time.
Blame Barbaric Islam and IRI, not FIFA
by IranFirst on Sun Apr 04, 2010 06:09 AM PDTThis is not something that the society should intervene. It must be
left to the individual to dress the way she deems appropriate. Imposing
this ridiculous dress code is infringing upon the human rights of the
individual and restricting her freedom. It is unethical.
Why should FIFA let violation of human rights of these women be
practiced under the games supervised by FIFA. ? This will be acceptance
of this barbaric practice.
If slavery was permitted in IRI some day (as it was practiced by Muhamad), should FIFA let the slaves play soccer ?
It's wrong and unjust
by Rea on Sun Apr 04, 2010 05:36 AM PDTThe girls have already been punished once by their own government imposing hijab on them. They should not be punished again, this time by FIFA.
Good move
by divaneh on Sun Apr 04, 2010 05:19 AM PDTThis is just the same as what they did to the Apartheid regime in South Africa. No one viewed those actions against the South African people and it was regarded by all as an attempt to isolate the Apartheid regime. Put your religious tendencies and victim mentality to one side and you will see that this is no different.
Gavazn - Sanction Iranian women ;)
by Fouzul Bashi on Sun Apr 04, 2010 02:47 AM PDTYes, your support is very clear and so is your 'honesty' 'courtesy' and 'humour' ..

by Gavazn on Sun Apr 04, 2010 01:55 AM PDTYou're no angel, I have seen you being very rude to people like OnlyIran and siding with some bullies on the site, so first learn some manners yourself then lecture people on right and wrong. Whether my humour is misplaced is a matter of opinion, and your opinion is welcome as anyone elses. I have and do support women everywhere, including Iran.
Gavazn - you don't seem to know Iran ;)
by Fouzul Bashi on Sun Apr 04, 2010 01:35 AM PDTWomen in Iran wear hedjab (which is mandatory by law) in all sports and have been doing so and taking part in international tournaments and Olympics for years now!!! As an Iranian, did you really miss that? :)
Just to add to your humour, these women work and struggle hard to be able to overcome obstacles of patriarchy and sort supply of facilities to become sportswomen and take part in international events. They wouldn't miss your misplaced sense of comedy in its extreme bad taste ...
LOL
by Gavazn on Sat Apr 03, 2010 03:12 PM PDTIt would be really funny if they had to wear it all the time, even on the pitch! That I'd like to see just for the comedy factor.
Emancipation at long last!
by Fouzul Bashi on Sat Apr 03, 2010 02:05 PM PDTBy this logic, Iranian women must be banned from all international appearances to satisfy the 'emancipation' urge of IC patriots!!
I bet they would be delighted to know that they are caught between scorpions on the one side and vipers on the other.

by IranFirst on Sat Apr 03, 2010 01:36 PM PDTThey are FORCED to wear this symbol of barbaric Islam (there are many more) inside and outside Iran. In addition they can NOT play (even with hejab) if they can be seen by men !
The days of IRI-Taleban terrorists is numbered, as seen during the past year
Just curious
by Tantrix on Sat Apr 03, 2010 12:54 PM PDTAre Iranian women footballers forced to wear hijabs outside the IRAN or are they serious muslims?
