(Reuters) - President Barack Obama's administration said on Wednesday that progress toward Middle East peace would help thwart Iran's ambitions by preventing it from "cynically" using the conflict to divert attention from its nuclear program.
Drawing an explicit link between Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts and Washington's drive to isolate Iran, Obama's national security adviser, Jim Jones, urged bold steps to revive long-stalled Middle East negotiations.
U.S. officials hope that shared Arab-Israeli concerns about Iran can be exploited to spur old foes to help advance Israeli-Palestinian peace and restrain Tehran's nuclear activities and rising influence in the region.
Jones coupled an appeal to Israel and its Arab neighbors to take risks for peace with a warning to Iran that it would face "real consequences" for its nuclear defiance. Obama is leading a push to tighten U.N. sanctions on Tehran.
"One of the ways that Iran exerts influence in the Middle East is by exploiting the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict," Jones told the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
"Advancing this peace would ... help prevent Iran from cynically shifting attention away from its failures to meet its obligations," he said.

Yes Mr. Obama fix the Middle East

by IRI on

Let's have a laugh. Slogans and slogans. Didn't Mr. Obama got his election based on "I am going to change Washington"? "I am not one of them"? "I am not afraid to sit with the Iranians and see what they have to say"?

"blah blah blah blah blah?"
Now go fix the Middle East, and while you are speaking about peace, why don't you throw a couple of preemptive strike stuff so the Israelis would like you more and you get your re-election? And don't forget:
All options are on the table AND we can nuke Iran.
Good luck Mr. Obama with fixing the Middle East. Don't forget to bomb couple of streets in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq for peace. It doesn't hurt.
Mid East peace would better Iran's position and that's exactly why you don't want it. Americans knew that Iranians would gain more from secure borders and they can establish better trade with higher investment returns. Why would Iran not benefit from peace? I can tell you why US won't. Why Israel won't.
So go tell it to your people that they are the only ones who buy this garbage. The world however is realizing what's on the agenda for US foreign policy.
Iranian government will open the curtains on your evil agenda for the Middle East. Time is on our side.
