LONDON (Dow Jones)-Iran's Pars Oil and Gas Co. has denied a report it was handing contracts in a giant gas field to a Revolutionary Guards-led consortium, a spokesman said Sunday.
The Mehr News agency Friday quoted Ali Vakili, managing director of the company, as saying two development phases of the South Pars gas field were transferred to a consortium led by Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, the engineering arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The story didn't clarify if any deal had been signed with Khatam al-Anbiya.
But in an emailed response to a Dow Jones Newswires request for comment, a spokesman for the company said "our managing director denied this news [Saturday] and we sent our letter to this agency."
"He said that our negotiations for these phases continue with different sides but we have not signed any contract with Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters," the email said.
But the spokesman declined to name the parties with which the company is in talks.
The statement comes after other reports saying Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB.LN) and Repsol YPF SA (REP) had been given an ultimatum to sign up for contracts in the gas field.
Shell declined to comment Sunday and Repsol, which couldn't be reached, has previously declined to comment.
