Marking the first anniversary of Iran’s disputed election, the American Jewish Committee on Tuesday launched a major online advocacy campaign to demand that the United Nations Human Rights Council "end its silence on the human rights abuses perpetrated by the Iranian regime."

The campaign, which can be viewed at www.ajc.org/iran, asks visitors to sign a letter to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urging her to request that the Council convene a special session on Iran, pass a resolution condemning Iran and commission an independent fact-finding mission into Iran’s human rights record.

“Madam Secretary, in your distinguished career, you have always represented our country’s best traditions and values in promoting human rights around the world,” the AJC letter to Clinton says, pointing out that “the United States joined the Council to fundamentally change a body regarded as a mouthpiece for authoritarian regimes.”
