there is a story about a mother who went to visit her son at Evin when Lajvardi was the "prosecutor" in charge of executing regime opponents.  She asked to speak to Mr. Lajvardi.  She was told that he was taking a walk with the rest of the prisoners by the pool.

It turns out that every night they would throw the bodies of the prisoners who were executed that night into the Evin pool.  The pool would then become totally red from the blood, and also the bodies would float to the top of the pool.  Lajvardi then, every morning, would take the prisoners for a "walk" around the pool so that they could see the grotesque scene...so that he could put fear and terror in their hearts.

So, yes, Evin has a long history with its "swimming pool".

There is a huge swimming pool in Evin prison anyway. It was there from the shah era. Way up on the hill in front of another holding complex.
