"Tunisia
is now the model to follow for all Arabs. The time for dictators and
dictatorships is over," said Mohamed Lagab, political analyst and
teacher of political science at Algiers University, according to
Reuters.

The Egyptian man, who suffered light burns after police
doused the flames, set himself afire in front of the parliament building
in central Cairo.

Officials identified him as owner of a small
restaurant from the town of Qantara who was protesting a government
policy regarding the resale of cheap, subsidized bread.

A Mauritanian man, 43-year-old Yacoub Ould Dahoud, also was hospitalized after setting himself on fire today. According to CNN,
Mauritanian media report that Dahoud started a Facebook group called
"Stop the corruption and tyranny in Mauritania." In a statement on the
page, Dahoud wrote, "Isn't it the time for the Mauritanian people to
choose their freedom?"

The fatal self-immolation last month of an
unemployed Tunisian man triggered the protests that led to the ouster of
Tunisia's authoritarian president.
