Visit Pazcuaro

by Sid Sarshar on

JJ, Morelia is one of my favorite towns in MX.  Be sure to visit the town of Pazcuaro.  It is an hour away from Morelia and it feels like 15th century Spain.  It is very similar to the city of Cuzco in Peru.  Both cities were designed by the same architect during the Spanish period.  If it is not too late in the season, you maybe able to visit the butterflies as well.  It is a natural wonder.

Sid.

Very Nice

by Kaveh Nouraee on

Jahanshah, you have a knack for capturing real-ness (if there's such a word) in your photographs.

(and in the case of photo #13, maybe a little too real!)

Thankfully, you are far removed from all of the ugliness that has put Mexico in the news lately.

Good luck with the espanol and Happy Norouz.

everyone is giving you advice on Spanish books, here's my two cents:

Go to Costco and buy one of those "Speak in a Week!" series in Spanish. It has four cute and easy booklets with 4 CDs for under $30. Each booklet and CD can be really learned in a week. It is an extremely quick way to start the Mexican kinda Spanish. Thus for example, it doesn't even have the formal structures that are not currently spoken and  wouldn't waste your time as in a standard book. It covers all the conversational points one needs in a Spanish speaking country, and builds confidence for  a future thoroug study, if you even care to get that far.

Love the new non- menacing pic , although the other one had its own intellectual merit :-)

But can you answer this question:

?donde esta el gato?

Seriously, try Rosettastone in conjuction with your calsses.  Planning on doing so myslef for Spanish.  I heard good things about it.

An easier way to learn a foreign tongue!

by erooni (not verified) on

I have a relative who once told me if you want to learn a foreign tongue you get a girl friend from that country and you put your tongue on her tongue and then your learn that tongue.Try it, it may be a less expensive and quicker way to learn Spanish, but be careful those muchachas bonitas are marriage minded just like Iranian girls:))

Spanish book

by Jahanshah Javid on

Thank you so much Ghaffar. I was looking for a book to learn basic Spanish and to have as a guide in my travels. I will definitely look for 501 Spanish Verbs. Muchas Gracias!

During my Spanish lessons here in Morelia I did notice that Spanish is easier than other European languages. I will never be able to speak Spanish fluently, but I think I will know enough to understand and speak on a basic level, which is all I'm aiming for.

...What kind of trees are in the background with white trunk-- looks like Pahlavi street in tehran except beautiful trees with no access to running brook water going down hill...

Good for you!

by Ghaffar (not verified) on

Jahanshah hello, do you recall few months back I wrote you and suggested that you pick up Spanish while you were in Mexico. Good job you decided to do it and good for you. Listen Spanish is one of the easiest languages to learn.

Here is what you got to concentrate on. Learn how to pronounce your Alphabet and the vows real good. This way you can read just about anything in Spanish, because they pronounce everything fanatically unlike English. I never ever misspell any word in Spanish.

Next try and memorize as many verbs in their infinity form as you can. And once you learn the formula for conjugation in different tenses then you easily can convert the verbs accordingly. For now don’t bother too much with the nouns and memorizing the objects, just learn your conjugation and infinity verbs as best as you can.

Make an index card and arrange the conjugation form for AR, ER, and IR in many different tenses (for example; AR present tense--- O, AS, A, AMOS, AIS, AN and so on). This way you can always use the index card to help you conjugate at all the time.

Last, definitely buy this book beside a dictionary and you will be all set. It is called (501 SPANISH VERBS). You will see how this book helps you learn Spanish fast and comes handy while engaging with Spanish speaking people.

I wish you good luck and take more photos of the Spanish colonial architecture. Que tengas un buen viaje Jahan.

Mexico is beatiful

by Alireza Sefati (not verified) on

There is something about Mexico that makes it very beautiful...it is real it looks real...no fake cubical looking shopping centers like here in US or fake parks like the ones we have in Tehran...I really enjoy my time every time I go down there... I usually drive down there but now all the violence in TJ is kinda scary so hopefully when things calm down Ill go again.
