Please see the press release below and spread the word. The Derafsh will fly over Statue of Liberty today. Also a test flight was covered by a local news channel in NY. See on YouTube:
For Immediate Release
Statue of Liberty in New York will look on proudly on Monday October 15, 2007 as Iran's ancient flag of the Kings, Derafshe Kaviani, flies overhead to signal the revolt of Iranians of every country, language, and religion against Iran's repressive Islamist regime of Mullahs. The 25 x 25 foot Derafshe Kaviani will fly along Long Island, over the United Nations, and circle New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. The flight is timed to coincide with the ancient Iranian festival of Mehregan, the fall festival that also celebrates an ancient victory over oppression at which this flag was unfurled.
The flag of the Kings, Derafshe Kaviani remains an important motif in Iranian art and culture, although its meaning has been repressed by the current regime. We raise this flag now to call on Iranians to renew their pride in their ancient culture and to rise once more, as their ancestors rose against legendary demons and conquerors, to establish an Iranian nation that is truly free.
Derafshe Kaviani was first raised, according to legend, against the Satanic, evil dragon demon Zahak. In Iran's national epic, Shahnameh Ferdowsi, the demon has become an oppressive Arab ruler. Kaveh Ahangar, the blacksmith rallied the people against him, using his spear and leather apron to remake the ancient flag and lead the people to victory.

Anti-Arab racism makes Iranians look like idiots....
by anti-racist (not verified) on Fri Oct 19, 2007 04:06 PM PDTCalling Iranian leaders Arabs is a sick and pathetic way of getting mileage out of anti-Arab racism.
What the fuck do Lebanese, Egyptians, Syrians, Iraqis, Palestinians etc...have to do with they fact that you, sorry Iranians can't get your house in order?
How pathetic to see Iranians on this site blaming Arabs and begging George Bush to bomb their country.
Until the movement for Iranian democracy purges away its racist ethnocentrism, it will be nothing more than an embarrassment for the Iranian nation.
Far fetched and unreal but better than nothing
by Mehdi on Tue Oct 16, 2007 10:37 AM PDTI just wish we would be more realistic in our dreams and realized that a true solution is a solution that considers all, or at least most. You can't simply ignore the masses of Muslims in our country, with the accompanying LONG traditions, customs and superstitions and lack of education, etc, and just decide to "change the regime." Even if somebody with some magic powers changed the regime today, which faction in Iran would be able to appeal to most of Iran (see above re superstitions, etc). I say let's live with the current regime and just try to improve what we have. Things have been very slowly improving within the past 30 years. If we could not "change the regime" 30 years ago, why do we want to do that now? Leave Iran the way it is and in another 20 years I believe we will have a much more democratic and free Iran. You wanna go faster? Well, be an activist, but in a more peaceful way. Don't ask for another "revolution" please. Let's move forward with "evolution". I know, I know, the mullahs don't allow it - but we can insist that they do allow it without destructive "revolution". Please note that revolutions have never worked anywhere! It's only a mirage. Evolution works! Let's do that, even if it is very hard to do. Peace!

Why do you find It funny? A nation can revive itself
by Kaveh Kianpour (not verified) on Mon Oct 15, 2007 06:28 PM PDTTo: Anonymous5
Why do you find this mind opening action to our heritage and culture funny? You hardly find any proud Iranian with today's Iran except those who are backward mullah supports and immoral to Iranian citizens and its heritage.
Nations have had come backs. It is very doable for a nation to revive itself. Why not Iran?
What would you say to Ferdowsi if you were fortunate to read his works on his days? Would you say to Ferdowsi, "AHAHAHAHAH, seriously, this guy is funny. You gotta give it to him for trying :)"
It is not comparing this work vs Ferdowsi's work. It is the revival of Iranian heritage vs backward laws of Sharia. Iranians can revive their cultural assets and still be on road to modernity.
What you need to understand is that Iranians have become so strange to their goodness of their heritage that a symbolic flag representing their Iraniness becomes strange and funny to individuals like yourself. Should we pity? No. It means we got a lot of work in front of us.
PAHAHAHAHAH, seriously, this

by mehdi baba (not verified) on Mon Oct 15, 2007 01:26 PM PDTThis is a load of bollocks.
Why some of us inisist on living in the past? You want change? 1st accept the reality of what Iran is today and what the 70 milion inside Iran do really want.
Stop dreaming and start getting real. Get to know your own country first.
This is a grass root
by Hope6 (not verified) on Mon Oct 15, 2007 12:15 PM PDTThis is a grass root movement. It has started since day one of occupation of tribal Arab Islamists in 1979. Do you remember the national anthem of Iran “Anjeza, Anjeza” in 1979? Who played those songs? These are questions to investigate and become skeptical of Islamic Republic.
Not trusting this cultural renaissance is futile and ignorant.
Occupation in Iran in 1979 also was a wake up call for Iranians. It is almost 30 years in working to today with all Iranians struggle against the brutality of a dark and backward force one way or another.
This is not new. Iranians want their culture back. This is a flag to unite us for Iranian culture and Iran. It is not a political party.
Rise again and bring back what?
by Midwesty on Mon Oct 15, 2007 12:11 PM PDTBring back the segregated society of Sassanid Empire. Where the poor stays poor and the rich gets richer? I seriously doubt, people who organized this event know the basics of the Iranian history. What they see is that how to reinstate the lost Pahlavi Dynasty to get on their old habit of milking people again. Or to purify Iranian nation through MKO/IRI-like martial courts? This scares me the most. Imagine they come and investigate your DNA and family history to find if you have the slightest Arab/Russian/Turk/Indian/...connections.
Iranians can not be Iranian
by Iran_Novin (not verified) on Mon Oct 15, 2007 11:55 AM PDTIranians can not be Iranian in their own country!
Forget about worn out Reza Pahlavi, Rejavi, Fadaiee, Majoahad, Khatami, Todeh, and ....
Free Iran. Become Iranian again for Iran and its culture.
This is a new beginning for Iran.
