Death threats

The first recipient of the Jeri Laber International Freedom to Publish Prize in 2003 was Farkhondeh Hajizadeh, an Iranian publisher who is also a writer, poet, and the editor of two literary journals. Now she is threatened to death and disappearance and her publishing firm in Tehran is being shut down. This is part of the systematic crackdown by the regime on independent publishing houses and writers, specially women in Iran.

محمود حمزه وکیل ذوالفقاری بر ریختن کتاب‌های ویستار به خیابان به وسیله مامورین اصرار می‌کرد و وکلای پرونده ویستار هم خطاب به ماموران اجرا گفتند ما مخالفتی نداریم اما این حکم باید به وسیله خودتان و در حضور خبرنگاران اجرا شود. مامورین اجرا که معتقد بودند تاکنون با چنین مشکلی روبه‌رو نبوده‌اند. در حالی که مدیران و کارکنان ویستار فریاد می‌کشیدند پذیرش ظلم یعنی همکاری با ظالم. اعلام کردند تخلیه این مکان کار ساده‌ای نیست و با عوض کردن قفل این فروشگاه و الصاق آن به پرونده تخلیه این کتابفروشی را به روز یکشنبه ۲۹ مهرماه موکول کردند. در دقایق پایانی ماجرا محمود حمزه خطاب به فرخنده حاجی‌زاده گفت: به زودی به حساب تو رسیدگی خواهد شد پرونده تو در راه است. حاجی‌زاده خطاب به خبرنگاران گفت با این تهدید محمود حمزه، سرهنگ بازنشسته و وکیل فعلی دادگستری من بعد از این امنیت جانی، شغلی، سیاسی و حیثیتی ندارم. خبرنگاران با شنیدن این گفتگو برای گرفتن عکس به سمت محمود حمزه رو آوردند. اما محمود حمزه با تهدید خبرنگاران که حق چاپ این مطلب یا گرفتن عکس از او را ندارند از صحنه فرار کرد.
