Further explanation
by Bahram on Wed Oct 10, 2007 07:03 PM PDTCyrus' response is basically correct, but I think he makes a mistake in saying that the scene is from an Iranian toilet. Rather, this cartoon juxtaposes two separate events involving denials regarding homosexuality. Senator Craig denies that he is gay and Ahmadinejad denies there are gays in Iran. By placing Ahmadinejad in the toilet scenario where Craig was "caught" it suggests that Ahmadinejad knows that there are gays in Iran, the same way Craig knows that he himself is gay.
why does it have to be an iranian toilet??
by sunshine45 (not verified) on Wed Oct 10, 2007 07:07 AM PDTfirst of all, there are these type of toilets in iran!
second, why does the picture have to be in iran... it DOES say "new yorker" on the cover. so, using deductive reasoning, he is in a stall in new york and he is being approached by an iranian gay man in the stall.
third, those type of sandals can be worn anywhere... by anyone. they resemble a popular german brand called birkenstock.
LOL, did i over analyze that picture or what??

This is not an Iranian toilet
by Omid Entezar (not verified) on Mon Oct 08, 2007 12:29 PM PDTThis is not an Iranian toilet because the toilet is not a squat toilet, there is a partition instead of a wall between the two toilets whereas the toilet walls in Iran is all the way to the floor, there is toilet paper dispenser on the wall, and there is no water vessel in the toilet. This is a toilet in a Western country (USA). But the conclusion is correct that there is an encounter with a gay man.
