Aroos in red

Bride in red dances at her wedding in Tehran

The contraption she holds later is a "knife" which will be used to cut the wedding cake! And the groom holds out some cash?!

Aroos khaili khejalatie

by Anonymous11 (not verified) on

It's clear that, in this union, the wife will be the boss and if the husband steps out of bounds, she'll have him for breakfast....Good luck Shah Damad!!!

I love her. She is truly enjoying her wedding. I would never be able to do what she does but she is breaking so many stereotypes. the only problem is the groom looks truly scared : )

I don't know what to say... First of all, it was kinda weird, but after all , it is their wedding, so whatever...

Baba, don't judge...they seem happy. Just because it doesn't fall in the safe confines of how we define a "traditional wedding" doesn't make it wrong. If it were not for people like her, pushing the boundries, nothing new and original would ever be created.

Live and let live.

Yes, she is the bride.  Watch her and the groom cut the cake with that sword/knife:

by azadi55 (not verified) on

she's not the bride you people. She is just a girl doing a knife dance of some sort, that's why the groom is holding out cash for her. It's a tradition, so she keeps dancing till she sees enough cash in groom's poor hands then she hands over the knife or machete that is she dancing with, and gets the cash.

by Mitra from khuzistan (not verified) on

to Sami, listen brother, do not insult the Dahatis. Appreantly she is from Tehran dahat, listenning to the music. Just because she choose the color of her dress and shamshir and over the top dance, poorly dose not make her dahati. Dahatis have more taste! If it was not for dahats city fox would never survive.
This has been a fun, I think for all of us to watch this video. Everybodys commnets have been so funny. But no one was funnier than ahmad bahai. Thanks, MITRA

Something positive:
* cute hair style
* pretty
* brave
* THE GROOM WILL NEVER MESS
AROUND WITH HER, SHE KNOWS
HOW TO HANDLE A SHARP SHAMSHIR

Congratulations

I actually think the wedding was kinda cool. When I was married to my husband, I wore a red sweater and jeans on our wedding day because we couldn't have a proper wedding then... And, I was a virgin. Two years later, we had a proper wedding with my parents and I wore a white dress then. Therefore, just because the bride has red gown on , does not necessarily mean she is not a virgin. Besides, it is her wedding and her day. If being different from the norm, makes her happy on her special day, let it be, and we must be happy for her.

That's no knife!

by Desertlion (not verified) on

As others have pointed out that ain't no knife!!
Hell, that looks like ghameh or more like shamshir. If she is acutall the bride, then the shamshir is to let the groom know who's the boss! No fooling around or the same thing Aziz-al-Saltaneh did to Doostali khare will happen :-)

Best wishes for both the bride and groom and their family.

Apparently Irandokht has no clue about Iranian women and Iranians in general. You need to visit Iran and understand what's really going on.

dude, I have never seen the bride do the knife cutting dance. It's always the sisters/friends. And btw, that's a shamsheer not a knife! Was she really the bride or like bride's sister? Anyway, she looked like she's going to a ball.

Party Girl

Some Points

by Party Girl on

I have seen a lot of videoclips of weddings, but this one was amazing and surreal!  It is quite possible that this was a Namzadi, but the clip itself was labeled as an Arousi in Tehran, so it's a wedding, I guess!  I thought the clothes, the bubbles, and the fog were over the top until I saw the cake knife!  Heeh!  That was something else!  It is a cake knife.  Here, you can see the bride and the groom actually cutting their cake with it:

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKDQeychBTQ&feature=related

The money the groom eventually pulls out of his pocket is Shabash which he will pay in return for the knife which he needs in order to cut the cake.  I'm not sure from which part of Iran the "knife dance" tradition came, but it seems rampant and out of control in weddings alll over the place now.  The Shabash tradition, paying cash to dancers, is an age-old tradition, prevalent all over Iran.

Live and learn!

To Ahmad.Bahai, you made me laugh out loud.

Maybe she is a bit over the top! Maybe! God bless her.I Wish the groom the bride lots of happiness.

I have seen some brides wearing Green for Bakhte sabz in traditional wedding. But never RED. why is that knife decorated like that? That thing look scary.

by ahmad.bahai on

Virgin Aroos wears white. Non-virgins wear red or pink (depending on mileage)!

IRANdokht

daring young lady!

by IRANdokht on

WOW

she's going against so many traditionally accepted looks and behavior, and she's having a ball doing it too!

Good for her! with that fresh attitude, she will not be supressed, neglected, or become a victim (hopefully).

Party Girl jan

that looks like a large sword, are you sure they cut cake with it? ;-)
