Earlier this morning, at 9:00 am EST, Hadi SAEI of IRAN won the first Gold Medal of IRAN in the Beijing Olympics. He won the Gold Medal by defeating his Italian opponent, Mauro SARMIENTO, in the final match of the 80 kg division of TAEKWONDO. This is Hadi's third Olympic Medal. He won a Gold in 2004, and a Bronze in 2000. I have included two (2) videos here: His Gold Medal Match, and The Medal Presentation Ceremony. Hope you enjoy them. Also see videos of his victories in earlier rounds in Beijing.

Thank you Hadi
by Fair on Fri Aug 22, 2008 06:12 PM PDTI am so proud of Hadi and his representation of our country. A wonderful sportsman with class, and able to come back from a deficit and win against opponents with physical advantage. This guy is awesome.
I am also very glad that he was not scheduled to face any Israeli opponent, so that he unlike Arash Miresmaili in Judo in 2004 would be allowed to get what was his- the gold medal.
Also, if you can, please watch the matches of Ms. Sara Khosh Jamal, whom I was also very proud of. She put up a valiant match despite all the limitations for women in that country, and made all Iranians, especially Iranian women, very proud. I look forward to the day when women are allowed to fully participate in sports in Iran.
Bravo, and ey-vallah.

Espand
by hamidbak on Fri Aug 22, 2008 03:48 PM PDTWow! How many kilos of "espand" shall I bring to the gathering to smoke under this dude's nuts?
At the rate Iranian athletes are going, he'll be Iranian of the Century. 13 days into the games, with our two millennia of history, games such as wrestling, weight lifting, and others under our belts, being one of the original participants in the original Olympic games, we finally medalled a bronze after Bangladesh, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia, and couple of days before Iraq and Afghanistan.
Way to go ladies and gentlemen. I'll keep my head up high for all the athletes from my motherland who finished second to last for so many events. Barikalahhh
I guess, "hala labod medalam mikhayd?!!!!"
