Classic 'Pressure' on Iranians to Succeed is EXCELLENT
by LILPERSIANANGEL (not verified) on Wed Jun 04, 2008 12:44 PM PDTI'm glad that my Iranian family culture "pressures" me to make straight A's and succeed in any society/country. I only have a couple of B.A.'s and the youngest...in a couple of years I hope to get on a direct track to obtain my PhD so I can teach history or literature at the university level. I used to feel 'sad' growing up when I saw how far I had to go to match my relatives' accomplishments (3 doctors, engineers, and one attorney) as I am only an elementary school teacher presently...but now, I'm GLAD because it just makes me DETERMINED. If I have children, I intend to carry on the tradition so they don't grow up defeated by the competitive society's norms and access to a good life. If you can't beat the system, WORK IT!!
