its nice to brand anything
by Anonymous33243 (not verified) on Tue Feb 05, 2008 01:38 PM PSTits nice to brand anything as terrorism and make it sound american! hostage taking has a different definition than terrorism, what about calling overthrowing the most democratic regim of iran by CIA terrorism?? or attacking Iraq terrorism? or even better why not calling the most anti-environment goveronment on the planet the terrorists after all that will rion the whole planet and everybody in it! why not calling destroying the native americans terrorism? or .... you get the point!
Even if America did all those things
by Fair (not verified) on Fri Feb 01, 2008 05:23 PM PSTthat you whine about and they are the worst country on earth, then hostage taking is still not justified. Expel their staff, close down the embassy, cut relations, and be done with it.
Whine and make excuses for the terrorists as much as you want, this was INEXCUSABLE TERRORISM that we still pay for today, and our children will continue to pay for it tomorrow.
Stop supporting criminals and terrorists.
Be Fair.
screw her and her views...
by Mr.Click (not verified) on Fri Feb 01, 2008 12:54 PM PSTscrew her and her views... her views along with some posters' views here who bash Shah, I have one thing to say to her and to all you marxists, MKOs, hezbollahis, hezbe baadis, smart ass politician wannabes, or whatever hell you are or you think you are:
"you got what you deserve....enjoy it!"
but hey, most of you live outside Iran, so who's the hypocrite?
morons!
Leftist + Qajar = rich, fat, ugly, proto-Islamo-fascist
by ams (not verified) on Fri Feb 01, 2008 07:26 AM PSTonly those separate "American government from American people" who know nothing about either or democracy. Qajar and leftist is like a double whammy... she is double as stupid as your average anti-American.
Sarcasim i hope.
by Anonymous123 (not verified) on Fri Feb 01, 2008 06:17 AM PSTYour being sarcastic correct? If not ill be happy to inform you on a little something known as blowback.
US performs a coup in iran puts the shah in power. People revolt against the shah. During the revolution the US was actively trying to control the revolution for their own interests. So the iranians took over the embassy. Simple. The US has admited to all this by the way. On the 9/11 bit well we had that coming. First we support nutty religeous guys from egypt and saudi arabia against the soviets in afghanistan. Then we prop up Saddam Hussein to be our next strong man. Arm him to attack iran. He fails and decides to go after Kuwait. So we send our army into Saudi arabia to go fight in kuwait. And we left our army their. Bin laden says that he went to war with us because we left our troops in saudi arabia and because our sanctions killed over 1 million iraqis half children. So yeah America is no saint bro. We have never been a saint. Check your history before you bash people for their views when its obvious she is more informed than you.
ahahaha jealous shahi's eat your hearts out
by A nonymous (not verified) on Fri Feb 01, 2008 05:41 AM PSTi love that every time an iranian becomes famous and acknowledges what a bastard the shah was, you all get upset. it's almost more entertaining than Persepolis itself. Shahi's, you're like a bunch of scientologists - a hypersensitive cult. He's dead, get over it.
I also think it is worth stating that Shahi's have never managed to squeeze out any creativity. Not even the shah himself in his lame excuses for books when he professed to be saved by imam ali when people tried to assassinate him. that was also b/c of policies, morons. i guess imam ali was busy on the day of kennedy's assassination.
Sarcasim i hope.

> annoying
by Another lost iranian in France (not verified) on Fri Feb 01, 2008 03:36 AM PSTEven in France, she keeps talking about the ''dictatorship'' which supposedly led to the revolution.I mean seriously, come on... This pisses me off, specialy that french medias looove talking sh*t about regimes they consider being unfair and totalitarian, ahmagh ha...
Now once again, the movie is cool, every iranian who left the coutry in the early 80s will feel something quite emotional while seeing it, believe me. But this whole privileged leftist thing makes me wanna slap her sometimes.
Marjan : you can talk about Vienna, weed, punk rock , this and that, and pasdar kicking your chubby ass for no reason, but tor o khoda don't get into politics. Damet garm topol
= )
She is a dormant terrorist
by Ardavan01 (not verified) on Fri Feb 01, 2008 01:39 AM PSTFor someone to suggest that the American policies were responsible for the hostage crisis is as uninformed as suggesting that 9/11 was caused by the American oil interests in the middle east. Ms Satrapi, please learn before lip something.
Precise, articulate and charming
by Majid on Thu Jan 31, 2008 09:35 PM PSTYou go ahead girl, make us proud.
inappropriate comments about hostage taking
by Fair (not verified) on Thu Jan 31, 2008 05:54 PM PSTI respect her for making a great movie and showing unseen real/human side of Iranian people.
But to come to the US and say that the US policies for the previous 20 years led to the hostage taking is legitimizing the hostage taking and inexcusable. You can be critical of the US government and still not condone state terrorism.
The taking of US diplomats hostage was one of the greatest treasons in our history, and it led directly to outbreak of a terrible war, the destruction of our economy and our youth, and the global image of Iran as a fundamentalist Islamic terrorist nation, which we have to address now with movies like this. If these people were spies, then they should have been expelled, not taken hostage by a sovereign government.
Be Fair.
Loved Her Great Responses and Her Awsome Attidude
by Al Sefati (not verified) on Thu Jan 31, 2008 05:02 PM PSTI very much like to thank her for her being such nice and articulate person.
Thanks for posting this and Thanks Marjan jaan.
To all Satrapi worshipers
by malekshah (not verified) on Thu Jan 31, 2008 03:30 PM PSTif you guys object to pahlavi worshipers for being biased, you are doing just the same. Iran is a hot issue these days. it has been a hot issue for quite a number of years. so no surprise the a moving animation depicting Iran and the Iranian life under the mullahs in a bad light, never mind that it has many diversions from the reality, must be hugely attractive to the westerners. to this end i give satrapi credit for doing something original. but that's where it stops. she is by no means a political analyst. her views, influenced by her family's hatred of the shah and the USA, are so simplistic and so naive. she says that she likes the American people but not the American governments!! can somebody explain to her that American government IS American people. this is what democracy is all about. oh, please don't tell me that when george bush is elected he doesn't represent the American people but if obama gets into the white house he is the true representative if the Americans. satrapiis is still as mush as a bigot as her parents have been. this is why she is condemned for towing the same line as her parents.
Nice
by Bored iranian dude (not verified) on Thu Jan 31, 2008 08:08 AM PSTThank you Ms. Satrapi, more people like you are needed, keep up the good work.
So you're not listening to her b/c of her blood/family?
by AB (not verified) on Thu Jan 31, 2008 05:30 AM PSTShahi ppl are amazing (in a terribly way). They expec us to listen to and worship dictators with the name Pahlavi because by their standards the man is/was God. But, we must discount this amazing woman because of her parents, grandparents, etc.... Yes. By this idiotic mentality 1. Iran's present regime is better than any alternative 2. Iranians suck at politics.
Can you imagine if someone spoke out against Hillary b/c of her parents? LOL have you seen/heard of her brothers? Try to learn something in the process of immigrating. I think the El Savadorian immigrant community in the US is more democratic that Iranians will ever dream of.
> just for your info
by Another lost iranian in France (not verified) on Thu Jan 31, 2008 04:00 AM PSTI don't want to start any controversy here. But people like Satrapi, who enjoyed a quite comfortable lifestyle prior to the revolution, who for centuries belong the so-called iranian bourgeoisie, these people have contributed to the establishment of the Akhounds.
Back in the days, they were ''intellectuals'', talking about Marx and Trotsky all day long while sipping their Cognac in northern Tehran.... I call them AN-tellectuals.
Other than that, the movie itself was great.
Satrapi and Colbert are both exceptional
by Iran_Novin (not verified) on Thu Jan 31, 2008 12:03 AM PSTLove you both
I love Satrapi!!
by Anon (not verified) on Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:19 PM PSTBravo to her for all her talent and hard work!
She is just adorable and one of the few open-minded Iranians who is sincere about her past experiences -- be it positive or negative! Iranian society tends to be too judgemental and that makes Satrapi an especially brave lady.
Thanks to Colbert for inviting her! I loved the interview.
Thanks for posting!

Leftist Qajars
by Wikipedia Rightist Leftist (not verified) on Wed Jan 30, 2008 08:03 PM PSTSatrapi’s mother is a great-granddaughter of Nasser-al-Din Shah of Persia from 1848 until 1896. The kings of the Qajar dynasty had hundreds of wives (lucky for them). They made thousands of children, multiply these kids by the number of generations since then, you’ll end up with thousands of prince and princesses. After fall of Qajar dynasty in 1925 many of these prince and princesses joined leftist movements in the hopes of gaining their lost political power, including jointing Todeh Party and Mujahedin Khalgh.
She is very cute
by I am ugly (not verified) on Wed Jan 30, 2008 07:48 PM PSTShe is very cute, her posture, her bashful smile and laughter, and the way she covers her mouth is very cute, and she has a very cartoonist face herself. Very intelligent, she made very minor mistakes with her English but that made her more human, which is what she is trying to project. Colbert was very funny also. Great job.
> leftist Qajar
by Another lost iranian in France (not verified) on Wed Jan 30, 2008 05:22 PM PSTI saw the movie, very nice. But somebody has to explain to me how you can be a leftist Qajar ? Thanks
I think She did a good job.
by local man (not verified) on Wed Jan 30, 2008 04:36 PM PSTI think She did a good job. she was cut between. she was trying to explain her directorial point of view and stay away from politics. but with Golert it's not a easy task..
Also i think she is cute..
She did a good job!
by ZebelTheRebel (not verified) on Wed Jan 30, 2008 03:45 PM PST....handling the Colbert. She made her point,,
She's so intelligent and talented. Such a doll
by AB (not verified) on Wed Jan 30, 2008 02:56 PM PSTAlso Steven Colbert is hilarious.
My hat off to Ms. Satrapi
by JR (not verified) on Wed Jan 30, 2008 02:51 PM PSTI thank you for speaking the truth with western media. We the Iranians need more people like you to help us to explain to the world media that we are good and talented people and deserve to be treated just and fair. Thank you for your contribution and uplifting of your fellow Iranians.
