The center of Iranian Filmarts is not in the diaspora. many poeple make good fils, earn mony and show thier symaty for strangers who have an eye on wealch which is "buried2 in Iran. But - so i mean - the real treasure of iranian Arts, also the Art of masking Movies, can be found only in the ISKLAMIC REPUBLIC of IRAN. A new success of the Film makers there can be watched in the coming film festival in tehren. please acknowledge the following:Kubrick's assistant in Iran's filmfest

Leon Vitali
Leon Vitali, longtime technical assistant of Stanley Kubrick, is expected to show up in Iran's 26th International Fajr Film Festival.

Vitali, the associate producer of the film Little Children (2006), is credited with serving as assistant to Kubrick as well as taking a part in some of his films.

The 60-year-old director will be an honorary guest of the 26th Fajr Film Festival in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

Born in 1948, Leon Vitali went to drama school and started work as a professional actor at an early age. He started his cooperation with Stanley Kubrick in 1975 in Barry Lyndon and continued the career as an assistant and friend of the famous director, cooperating with him in a number of his films.
And now he comes to Tehran. I think - and the newly passed time showes - Satrapi`s Film is made for strangers, Fadjr-festival is for Iranians. Greeting

Questions...

by Sangkak on

I have yet to see the film though I must ask:

Why was the film produced by Spielberg and why is it beloved by zionists worldwide?

Doesn't Rezaei have connections to Voice of America?

Clarification ;0)

by Darius Kadivar on

Thank you mitrap for your feedback. As you may know the official announcment was made only yesterday and living in France with the Time difference I did not get the news on time at the moment of the publication.

However it should be noted that Persepolis was submitted for nomination iby the CNC ( Centre Nationale de La Cinematographie) last year:

//www.cnc.fr/Site/Template/T1.aspx?SELECTID=2746&ID=1845&Mois=0&Annee=0&t=3

In several categories the major two being Best Foreign Film and Best Animation categories. Same thing at the Golden Globes but it was only selected for Best Foreign film and lost to The Diving Bell and the Butterfly .

As for the Oscars as you may know there are two Phases the first one of which you have posted in Best ANIMATION:

//oscars.org/press/pressreleases/2007/07.11.08a.html

And PHASE II which will select ONLY 3 out of the present list of 12 films. This is actually VERY good news in that it may even increase the chances for Persepolis if selected in the final race. But we need to keep our fingers crossed and pray hard ;0)

As for not being selected in Best Foreign film category, that is tough but maybe a good luck omen in disguise, since Non of the films nominated at the Golden Globes seems to appear in this list of nine films

//oscars.org/press/pressreleases/2008/08.01.15a.html

Particularly that the favorite competitors like the Rumanian PAlme D'Or  4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days does not appear nor does the Golden Globe Awardee: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

This is very unfortunate for these two nevertheless excellent films but as I have mentioned in my different articles, the Oscar Selection is always very unpredictable. This year particularly with 63 countries submitting their films in Best Foreign Film Category made the selection process I am sure a headache for the Academy members.

It should also be noted that the Oscars are often at odds with European Film Festivals like Cannes so ANYTHING can be expected for better or for Worse.

The positive note however is the choice of Persepolis in Best Animation category which is in itself a little miracle given that it was not running in this category for the Golden Globes which as you may know often predicts or outlines the ultimate choice for the Oscars.

Good to see that Satrapi and Parronaud are still in the Race and EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE ;0)

Thank you for your feedback. I welcome them.

note to Mr.Kadivar: correction to Oscar nominated

by mitrap (not verified) on

The category is "Animated" not Foreign"(this one my mistake)

//oscars.org/press/pressreleases/2007/07.11.0...

From official Academy wesite:

"12 Animated Features Submitted for 2007 Oscar® Consideration ....."

"The 80th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. "

Oscar nominated?

by Mitrap (not verified) on

French presented this film to Oscars as their representation in foreign film category,like a lot of other foreign movies,so I am not sure you can say
Oscar nominated yet(please pay attention "yet"). Because even they have not announced American movie nominees. If you had said Golden Glob nominee was more accurate.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
