Shusha Guppy

Singer and composer has died

THE GUARDIAN: Shusha Guppy, who has died aged 72, was one of the most talented women of her generation - a writer, singer and composer of songs, who moved freely among intellectual elites and made a home for herself in three radically different cultures. Born in Tehran, she was the daughter of Mohammad Kazem Assar, the distinguished Shia theologian and philosopher, who held the chair of philosophy at Tehran University, and who remained a model to Shusha throughout her life>>>

Here's an excerpt from an for a documentary film about the life of Khayyam.

A few words about Shusha

Great Loss

by Darius Kadivar on

Shusha Guppy was also behind the music score for the first Iranian co production to be Nominated for the Oscars in the mid 70's entitled "People of the Wind" which was about the yearly migration of the Bakhtiary Tribes in Iran across the mountains of Zardeh Kuh. The film was  narrated by James Mason and was made as a tribute to the classic documentary by Merian C. Cooper made 70 years earlier called Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life. Cooper was one of the creators of the film King Kong and was to become an important producer in Hollywood discovering such greats as John Wayne and Katherine Hepburn when they started off in the film profession.

So sad that Mrs. Guppy passed away at a relatively young age. She had alot to give and the Iranian Diaspora culture owes her alot too.

Shusha as a singer!

by Asita on

Oops...How come I had never heard of her?

by Azarin Sadegh on

I wonder how come I missed to know this writer...

I found a link to A girl in Paris on Amazon, where I could search inside the book: //www.amazon.com/gp/reader/1845113802/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link

Has anyone read her "A girl in Paris"?

It's the most dreadfully embarrassingly self-gratulatory drivel I've ever been subjected to.
I can't for the life of me understand why this woman was hailed as anywhere near intellectual.
