To me, the current mess is pretty simple. Who has the power over whether people enter or leave Gaza? Israel. Who is Israel trying the hardest to keep out? Journalists. The Israelis understand that spin is more important than censure, and are willing to take on the latter to maintain their ability to engage in the former.

by Ajam (not verified) on Tue Dec 30, 2008 10:52 PM PSTTo Shahin A., Gaza is not Israel! Israel in not even the occupying force in there... It's merely a sieging force, with no mandate, that happened to be controling the Gazan borders!

are you volunteering as hostage? to die for your article?
by citizen (not verified) on Tue Dec 30, 2008 04:23 PM PSTTwo Fox News journalists were freed in good condition Sunday after being held by kidnappers in the Gaza Strip for nearly two weeks, the longest abduction of foreigners in the chaotic Palestinian enclave in recent years.

Israel
by Shahin A. (not verified) on Tue Dec 30, 2008 02:35 PM PSTIt seems whoever wants the arabs to succeed also wants Israel and the U.S.A to fail. If you are a journalist that spreads propaganda instead of just reporting, of course that country has the right to stop that journalist to do what he wants to do. These anti-Semites that we have here in the Iranian community do not benrfit anything by just acting that way. Arabs do not like Persians, and I do not know why Persians try to support bunch of terrorists. Just remember this, it was Arafat that came to Iran, of course with Khomeini's invitation to kill Persians and whoever did not want Islamic dictatoship. In addition, it seems Islam from start has been in war with everybody who did not like the religion. Please wake up, you are being fooled.

Some thoughts on Gaza
by bikar (not verified) on Tue Dec 30, 2008 06:50 AM PSTStop rambling, and try to sound philosophical, go have a drink in your house, and may be a puff of whatever you do, and watch your movie in your gated community. You sound very stupid.
most broadcasters are present in Gaza!
by Arash Kamangir (not verified) on Tue Dec 30, 2008 01:54 AM PSTI watch at least 8 different news broadcasters from 6 different countries and they are all present in Gaza. For example Aljazeera is covering the war totally without any sensurship.
If someone is not allowed in, then he has other problems.

by BobKazak (not verified) on Mon Dec 29, 2008 10:08 PM PSTIts like the siege of Grozny, except the media are actually trying to report on the situation. I'd like to see the media referencing Russian censorship on interior policy issues to what Israel is doing. Mostly because they take a shot at themselves in the process.
Spin!
by Ajam (not verified) on Mon Dec 29, 2008 08:40 PM PSTBeautifully put: "...willing to take on the latter to maintain their ability to engage in the former."!
Brace yourself for the pending barrage of "anti-semite, Islamofascist, Arab-supporter, terrorist-lover, lefti-Jew-hater..." spin!!
Sometimes you have to step back and ask a simple question
by Q on Mon Dec 29, 2008 08:31 PM PSTI applaud this man's speaking out against murder and genocide.
It's clear why they prevent journalists, it's the same reason they prevent food and supplies (even though, they have supposedly "withdrawn") into Gaza.
It's the same reason they have repeatedly and forcefully rejected UN peace keeping presence on the ground, even just inside Palestinian territory.
It's the same reason they work so hard to control the narrative in the media, including openly spending money by Israeli foreign ministry to control even Internet discussions. That's just the publically disclosed side of it. It's not a joke.
Agree
by Jahanshah Javid on Mon Dec 29, 2008 07:52 PM PSTWhy are journalists being kept out of Gaza? For their own safety? Because they are Hamas sympathizers? Or because Israel does not want us to see the tragic truth?
