Engineering students at Tehran University have designed a humanoid robot with its overall appearance based on that of the human body. Sorena is named after the Great Parthian warrior who defeated the Romans at the Battle of Carrhae in the Iranian province of Maadaa (Medea/Media).

Robart
by robart (not verified) on Wed Jul 08, 2009 03:26 PM PDTAt least this robot can go many meters alone, slowly but can do it, it has nothing to hide, just honest movie no tricky... if you watch Robonaut the american robot for space they have invested 200 million dollars in something that cant even walk, and the same with the robot Dexter it simple can not walk properly, this is the real reason of the jealousy = corruption in the USA. Which has generated 13 trillions dollars dept and more than 700 billion dollars for the military expenditures per year, to fuck the world and more than 3000 nuclear weapons ready to be launch. For all those imbeciles who has posted messages with jealousy instead of congratulate a technology who is going to resolve the chaos and save the world of all the misery they have generated selling its fucking weapons. The Pentagon alone receive 80 or 100 billions dollars per year, to have some imbeciles who cant even build a washing machine for its dirty pants with shit...

Important Religious Rules
by Anonymous Observer on Mon Dec 15, 2008 09:57 AM PSTSince, according to Grand Ayatollah Abdullah ibn Artoodeetoo, proper Islamic conduct applies to artificial life forms in the same manner as it applies to natural life, the IRI should now teach the robot some Islamic codes of conduct, including, but not limited to, the following:
1) how far he has to stick its finger up its ass to accomplish "Taharat". since it's a computer and good as precise measurements, I am sure that it will excell at this task;
2) how to do "vozoo" (may cause electric short);
3) how to do namaz;
4) how to, of course, "sigheh" another robot;
5) how to do jihad;
They should also deprive it of electrical charge from dawn to dusk during Ramadan.

damet garm, i fully agree with u than with those who still believe that shah will one day come back. not even shah the aryamehr and bla bla bla could make such achievements as those "mullahs" r doing. they r iranias as well, we should not forget! and they want the countries prosperity and progress, otherwise they would have forbidden this (like the church did), by saying it is FOZULI TU KARE KHODA!!!!
hope there will me more ppl like u and me with this attitude.

Don't worry Jamshid jan
by Salar (not verified) on Sat Dec 13, 2008 04:11 PM PSTpretty soon oil at $25 a barrel will habituate IRI thugs to the massive boot in the behind by iranian nation (16 azar yadet nareh). the time of reckoning is nearing.
50s technology
by jamshid on Fri Dec 12, 2008 06:20 PM PSTNothing to be proud about here. These type of robots were built in the 50s too. The IRI wants to habituate Iranians to the absolute minimum and make them feel proud of it too.
A worthless 50s robot here, a 60s rocket there. And all these while Iran's best minds have left and are still leaving the country in hopes of finding better lives elsewhere.
By 2009, Iranians could have accomplished and achieved FAR FAR FAR more than this petty toys and feshfeshehs that the IRI is so pathetically showing off.
And the IRI, with its "gedaa parvar" philosophy and culture, works hard to take the focus away from what Iranians' true and high potentials are, and teach them instead to be happy with their absolute minimum potential.
IRI's motto: Have a marja'e taghlid, be a gedaa, forget your true potential, and be happy with little toys.

by Anonymous111 (not verified) on Fri Dec 12, 2008 06:01 PM PSTI guess you're not intelligent enough to understand the point of my post...but here, I'll spoon feed it and change the caliber of the writing to fit your mental processing capabilities.
Artificial intelligence ("AI") is Asimo, where the robot can make independent decisions by observing its environment, and it can also make movements and comply with requests in an independent manner. That is the whole point about Asimo: it's independent decision making capabilities.
The "robot" that the IRI has built, on the other hand, is no different than the robot on eBay. If you care enough to watch the video, you will see that unlike Asimo, that robot is being operated via remote control (just like the one on eBay). So, there is no "AI" present here. It's just a toy that is being operated by remote control. The robot is incapable of making any independent movements and decisions. That was the reason for my comparison with the toy on eBay....capiche?
Why so much negative reaction here!
by Homayun on Fri Dec 12, 2008 04:43 PM PSTWHy are there so many negative reactions here?? Yes, Japan or China may be able to make much more advanced Robots, but nothing stops us in persuing our own. I for one, am proud of any thing made by Iranian hands.
Do you think that Japan, Germany and all other developed countries got where thye are today just at a snap of the finger? No. So why should we.
I actually think that given the current IRan's status quo, its cociety limitations, its wellknown problems, it takes a lot of courage, commitment and a lot of heart to do any type of R&D work..
I am proud of their achievements.
My Moto: Be Positive, Optimistic and don't fall in routines
This is Joke!!!
by Salar (not verified) on Fri Dec 12, 2008 03:27 PM PSTIf IRI nuclear technology is anything like this nonsense (as I know it is if not worse)then we are all f… big time. What is this embarrassment to advanced technology? just another IRI PR stunt for internal consumption. Islamic robot, like the rest of their nonsense inventions, Islamic human rights, Islamic democracy etc, etc. I can build this in my garage in less than a week. Want to see a real AI and robotics, forget asimo, say hello to Big Dog

by Ali Sefati (not verified) on Fri Dec 12, 2008 12:53 PM PSTobviously you have no knowledge of Robotics or AI or else you would not make fool out of yourself to show us a pre-programmed robot being sold for $47.99 on ebay!
Here's one on eBay..
by Anonymous111 (not verified) on Fri Dec 12, 2008 08:07 AM PSTand this one actually walks...no rollers:

Losers and desperate whiners
by Toofantheoncesogreat (not verified) on Thu Dec 11, 2008 10:48 PM PSTUsing the Asimov to beat down on this?? Are you out of your mind??? The Japanese have had 50 years into this business, Iran 10, and the prof says that this is just the beginning, how about just writing congratz??
And IRIRobot, go buy one of these robots you talk about in Walmart, film it, and post it on iranian.com, please, before doing that , STFU, you have no idea of the capabilities and what not this machine has.
Iran is currently a multi Robocup competetion winner, with being the holder of several medals.

by eye rain ian (not verified) on Thu Dec 11, 2008 04:33 PM PSTThis shows how advanced Iran is in every field.They have made a robot that can walk by use of rollers and move one arm to left and right.I bet it does break dance too.:0)

by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Dec 11, 2008 02:32 PM PSTObviously this is another clear sign that Iranians are building a nuclear weapon to destroy civilization as we know it.
Great!

I was expecting a different name...
by Anonymous Observer on Thu Dec 11, 2008 02:20 PM PSTlike Soghra, or Zeinab or Fatima....you know, like they name their submarines and missles (Tariq, Hoot, etc...).
Where is the turban?
by Mehdi on Thu Dec 11, 2008 05:05 PM PSTThis robot is not Islamic at all. These guys should not be allowed to create robot without a turban. :)
