Ben,

Monk was a great musician with a tragic end. I am very impressed to see there was someone in Iran 'back then' who knew who he was, let alone try to imitate him. I think even Monk couldn't imitate himself since he never knew what keys he was going to play after the ones that he had his fingers on.

By your look, and the long jump on your avatar, I think you look great for a frozen meat! ;O)

Thanks!

No I have nothing to hide. I'm 20 and still available. But 'back then' I was just a kid (I was in a freezer for a while!) so I'm not a reliable source for your curiosity. But you got it about right. It sounds like Thelonious Monk and Jazz of 50s (is there any other kind of Jazz?!)

But my perception is that Farhad and all like minded musicians of that period were not so selective in style of Jazz. It wasn't that deep rooted to bring about a 'selective' taste. Bear in mind that Nat King Cole, Ray Charles and others, where not necessarily identified as 'Jazz' sound. They were in 50s of modern Iranian youth what Michael Jackson was in 80s. Farhad, before anything else, was a performer, with incredible class in his taste. I think it just came naturally.

How long ago is "back then"? I am not trying to figure out your age, but I think his style reminds me of Thelonious Monk in 50s. Maybe I am wrong. Please correct me if I am wrong.

His voice was made for Jazz.

His voice was made for Jazz. There was no ear for Jazz back then (in the market). But he put his Jazzy voice in everything he sang.

I guess this was recorded in koochini nightclub.
