* US policies: obviously hypocritical

While Mr. Alidad Vassigh [What was the joke?] applauds the US administration for "calling a spade a spade" he seems to forget that the same individuals in power in the White House and Pentago now were backing and supporting the same Saddam Hussein not so long ago.

So, you see, the reason why US foreign policy is condemned is not because it falls short of any ideals, rather it is because the policies are so obviously hypocritical and self-serving. And furthermore, our right to criticize US foreign policy is exactly that: a RIGHT, and not a privelege accorded to us by the US government for which we ought to show gratitude by subservient silence.

* Reminders

I know you like sharing that moral high ground with your beloved Republican politicians, but come on! Who are you kidding? [What was the joke?]

Earlier, I was reading a report about a somber ceremony in Hiroshima marking the anniversary of an event that puts a little wrinkle in your moral high ground. The nuclear bombs in Japan killed several hundred thousands of innocent civilians. And today the mayor of Hiroshima blasted US policy to develop even newer nuclear weapons now!

The major US media outlets either didn't report it or briefly mentioned it and pushed it down their lists or dumped it. In fact, CNN's website has pretty much burried this report since it was released earlier today (August 6, less than a day later!)

My thought was that someone needs to remind guys like you that it was US of A and other leading Western powers that first developed nuclear and other horrifying WMD's. And as long as only the big boys had these WMD's to stand a head and shoulder above than everyone else and dictate international policy, all was OK.

But now that the genie is out of the bottle and peasants are smarting up and learning how to build their own bow and arrows (!) there is a problem with WMD's. Third world is not civilized enough to have them! Well, just explain Hiroshima and we'll forget about that argument! Every other thing in US foreign policy of the past 50 years has been as hypocritical as the example I just gave you with the WMD's.

Before you get comfortable with your Republican (or Democratic for that matter) moral authority, tell everyone on this site how you justify the fate of Dr. Mossadegh, Dr. Salvador Allende of Chile and many other democratically elected leaders who were toppled, along with the aspirations of their people, by the US government just to advance nothing more significant than economic interests of American companies in the third world! Tell us what you think about Guatemala and El Salvador etc, etc,...?

Tell us what you think about the fact that US State Department and CIA sponsored and supported Saddam Hussein's attempts to rise to pwer in Iraq beginning in 1963 and until he toppled his own cousin Al Bakr? Where were your Republican friends when Saddam gassed thousands of innocent people in the 1980's?

But then again, I have always argued that the far right of this country's political spectrum uses tactics and propaganda that is curiously similar to those of the religious zealots who are running Iran to the ground; and from such a high religious moral ground!

Well, there is a saying in Iran that basically says Akhoonds (Mullahs) are very shameless (por roo) which an old age tale says is because of what has been done to these Mullahs in the backrooms (pastoos) of the religious seminaries (hozeh-ye elmieh-ye Ghom!) Now please tell us, what's the Republicans' excuse to be so shameless and hypocritical?

The 20th Century will go down to the annals of history as one the worst human kind ever lived, just due to the inventors &
followers of Socialism, Communism & so forth.

Bravo you who could come out un-abashedly with the truth.

* The joke? Thinking America is god's gift

Perhaps our writer [What was the joke?] needs to be reminded that America has been the only country to drop the nuke slaughtering hundreds of thousands of civilian in Japan, practiced slavery, the first nation to use biological warfare against native Americans, supported General Pinochet, founded Ben Laden, Noriega and if he remembers Saddam; yes it was America that supported Saddam using chemical weapons against Iranians and please don't forget the Shah.

The joke really is that some folks like you and I think America is god's gift to our world and humanity because we have lots of STUFF and can say (although I am not so sure about that any more) what we want, perhaps Patriot act II is taking care of this one too.

* Hooligan coup

Mr. Bahmani's review [Ah! That's why]of the new book by Mr. Kinzer, "All the Shah's Men" shed light on all most of us in the Iranian community have known all along about the fall of the freely elected Prime Minister of Iran in 1953. A couple of bucks and the aid of two Americans helped topple a government of the people.

And who helped? Simply put, a bunch of Iranian goons and hooligans. In any decent country goons and hooligans would be put in jail and the key to the prison cell would be thrown away.

Unfortunately, in Iran, in 1953 the goons controlled the streets.

* Still remembered

Mr. Bahmani, [Ah! That's why]it is nice to know the OLD MAN's legacy is still fresh on the mind of younger Iranians and democratic and nationalist values he preached still remembered by young Iranians and intellectuals even in this far corner of the world! Good article thanks!

* Credit for recognizing past failures

I just finished reading your article on Abdi [Fit for a foot soldier]. You probably do have a point and probably is coming from some injustice has been afflicted on you or someone you know from this system, just like lots of others including myself. But unfortunately it is hidden way under the anger, hatred, and verbal insults all over the article.

At least that much you could give credit to Abdi that inside an unjust system recognized the past failures and wrong doings and turns against it. This needs a lot of courage and integrity. With the same token that you are using, we should condemn a lot of great men and women in history, just to name a few the prophet Moses (raised in Pheron palace and turned against him later), Saint Augustine and …!!

Wish you good luck

* While collaborators try to distract the nation

Thank you for Mr Farzin's article [Fit for a foot soldier].

While a small group of the original hardcore informers and collaborators of the regime like Mr. Abdi are trying to distract the attention of a nation to themselves, I draw your attention to the following: Last week, Mojahed (Babak) Abdi, student of English Language in Kerman, didn't come back home in Tehran for his summer holidays.

With his family's persistent investigations, the responsible authorities have shown his grave and said that he has been accidentally killed by a car which has fled the scene. Case is closed. No ceremonies or big fuss allowed.

* Arrogant ignorance

In regards to Parkhashe's latest article [Outspoken or outsmarted?], I must say that "Parkhash" or whatever his real name is, is the most ARROGANT, IGNORANT, SELF-ABSORBED monarchist -- or for that matter human being -- I have ever come across in my entire life....

* Abdi was not a government employee

Please get your facts straight before publishing them [Fit for a foot soldier].. Abbas Abdi was not a government employee when he conducted the survey(s). The surveys were done by a privately owned public opinion research firm.

* Unknown hands undermining Iranian integrity

Hi, I am an Iranian Azeri, and this e-mail is my response to "Are there any questions?".

First, we have to come to the conclusion that Azeri people are not Turk; they are ethnically Iranian even though their language after Turkish occupation of Iran became a mixture of Turkish and Persian languages (mostly Turkish).

It is good to recall that by Persian, I mean Iranian languages, which Persian is one them and by far the most important one. Persian (Iranian or Aryan) language has been the official language of Iran in ancient, medieval, and modern periods, and the modern Persian is mainly based on the Pahlavi language which was the common tongue and script in Parthian and Sassanid empires.

We should not forget that the official language of Ottoman Empire was Persian, and for example they used the Epic of Kings of Ferdowsi for stimulation of Ottoman Army against Iranians in Saffavid period. It seems there are some unknown hands to undermine Iranian integrity by calling for linguistic freedom.

If you don't mind please publish these two articles on the Features on iranain.com from a website related to University of London for enlightenment of my countrymen.
