Farewell to Fardin
Death of legendary actor marks end of an era
By Farzan Navab
April 7, 2000
The Iranian
To many in my generation Mohammad Ali Fardin was a legend.Yet to most
Iranian intellectuals he remained an over-rated actor who represented a
commercial cinema that was an embarrassment to our national identity.
Fardin's death in Tehran yesterday no doubt is the end of an era in
Iranian social history, an era which was marked with social innocence on
the one hand and coming of age on the other >>>

Ali Daei: Player of the year
April 6, 2000, Beirut (Asian Football) - Iran's Ali Daei
was recognised as Asia's Player of the Year for 1999 at the AFC's annual
awards, held for the first time in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
A long-standing and essential part of the Iran national team, Daei collected
the blue-riband award because in 1999 he did what no Asian player had done
before - scored against some of the best clubs sides in the world in arguably
the game's highest quality club competition. >>>

Precious smile
Think about all famous Iranians past and present. How many of them make
you feel HAPPY? Fardin had that effect on me. His beautiful smile, his
warm laughter, his down-to-earth goodness will be missed. We have plenty
of characters who can make us hate, or make us die for some cause, or make
us cry. Fardin brought us joy... Heaven knows he will be missed >>>

* Mollas on Mars
Ali S. writes:
WOW! U.S. embassy in Tehran by 2001. That is FANTASTIC! I also read
a recent article from the UN's January 2000 Journal that Iran will be the
first country to open an embassy on Mars. The Mars opening's projected
for 2005 ["Albright
in Tehran"].
There are currently a cadres of academicians (mollas), from Qom, learning
how to speak Martian. Their comments thus far:"The language is not
that hard for us to learn given that twenty some odd years ago we had raml'o
ostorla'ab and spoke with the spirit world. for a modest fee!" Happy
April 1st!
* FYI
ICM writes: One
thing we don't have in Iran. Is April fool's day ["Albright

* Share the same
Ralph Carroll
writes: I worked for Bell Helicopter International in Esfahan for two
years till jan79. I really enjoyed seeing the country and meeting very
interesting and kindly people. I hope relations between our countries political
forces will improve in the near future as I believe both peoples share
the same love of life and family.
* Going to Iran
Cindy writes: I
have been dating an Iranian for quite a while now. Things are getting more
serious and he recently asked me to go to Iran with him this summer. My
family is upset and my friends are worried but I trust him and would love
to spend my life with him. Thank you for your perspective on Iran. The
Iran you have learned is the one that I know. I wish that the relations
were better between our two countries.

Innocence
With limited tools at his disposal and no real national cinematic history
to support him, Fardin's movies reflected the innocence of coming of age
and the flowering of a new kind of popular culture.
