I’ve never done this and usually Nazi Kaviani invites people to write but I’d like to ask fellow contributors to write a piece about the remarks made by Shadi Sadr that ALL Iranian men are chauvinists and as a nation we need to overcome this problem. While this ALL statement may not be a complete representative of her remarks everyone is welcome to read the original article, I couldn’t find an English version. Do you think ALL Iranian men are chauvinists?
There are just a few suggestions as guidelines and I don’t know if anyone will respond but should you decide to accept this mission :-)
- Please use the title Chauvinists vs. Shadi Sadr: ______ (followed by your title)
- Your piece can be in English or Farsi
- Your piece can be of any form; poem, cartoon, blog or even a belog!
- Your piece can be for or against Ms. Sadr’s remarks, as long as it is your view
- Your piece can also be about feminism or women’s rights as it relates to Ms. Sadr’s remarks
- Try to keep your piece under 2000 words
- Please provide a link to this invitation in your piece so I can later post links here
I urge everyone to join and contribute as this is an important enough issue and Ms. Sadr’s comments are bold enough to explore further.
A background for Shadi Sadr can be found here and last month she was sentenced in absentia to six years in jail and 74 lashes. 74 lashes!
Cartoon translation: Over my dead body on Valentine’s day, wash them tomorrow not today.

A belog is a flimsy blog! A blog with Iranian accent!
by Anonymouse on Thu Jun 03, 2010 11:32 AM PDTCouple years ago a very prominent i.com contributor who shall remain nameless but we can call him Mr. B criticized many of us for writing when our writings weren't worth a crap, in his opinion!
So another i.com contributor (not as prominent as Mr. B ;-) who shall also remain namess but we can call her Ms. N told him; ok we will write in the belog section and he can continue his masterpieces in the articles front page section. Belog was her invention but it's commonly used in i.com ;-)
Everything is sacred.

Thank you for your great post! I really like this part:
**********************************
Simply put, the true masculinity of men in a society is revealed when they allow for, and encourage, their women to reach their full potential, whatever that may be - It's indeed a sign of inner weakness, and sheer insecurity, when that is taken away from the women, and replaced by oppression and subjugation of all kind!

thank you so much!
The Truth About A Reality
by R2-D2 on Wed Jun 02, 2010 08:10 PM PDTFor anyone who has spent any significant time in Iran recently, there is indeed quite a visible Truth evident everywhere, and that's the women in Iran do not share in any remote sense of equality the freedoms and rights that men enjoy - Not even close :) - !
For those of us who grew up in Iran under the Shah, and as an Iranian man, I can say categorically, unequivocally, and without any reservation, that although women's standing in society was never equal to men, nevertheless, their rights in general, and their quotient of happiness and well-being in particular, was significantly higher under the Shah than under this brutal regime!
An enlightened society should strive to provide its women with more and more rights and freedoms - The evolutionary process over the past several millenia, fueled primarily by a superior physical strength, has evolved the man into essentially the role of the protector of, and the provider for, a woman and her offsprings!
However, the progress that has taken place in the past one hundred years or so, has allowed women in general, and those living in the Western world in particular, to have a more significant control over their economic circumstances - This will indeed lead to more and more freedoms and independence in other areas of their lives also!
Pure And Simple :) - !
