Thank you for the post, but I really don't see any 16 year old in wedding dress in the video, none! What I saw were guys and little girls. Where are the brides? I waited to see them in the video, they never appeared. The Palestinians should show media the "real" video to silence the critics. 450 couples are a huge number. Is that the tradition that brides don't participate in the wedding ceremony over there? Did someone doctor the vdeo and leave out the brides?

None of the 100 men, some getting married for the first time, or 100 women were older than 25, and all were dressed in black and loyal to Hamas.

They were accompanied at the mass ceremony by their relatives, friends and their children - the daughters wore white dresses, while the sons wore black suits.

Many of the bridegrooms, who received 2,800 dollars from Hamas in recognition of their marrying a widow, are taking on another wife, and a majority of the men are brothers-in-law of the widows, the late husbands being Hamas militants killed in the Israeli invasion.

Ahmed al-Fayoomi, a 22-year-old former single, proudly said he decided to marry his brother Alla's 24-year-old wife Sabrin because 'according to our Islamic rules as well as to our traditions, I believe I'm the one who should take care of my brother's wife and their children.'

Alla, who died in the conflict, left behind seven children, he said.

Mohamed Taha, 23 years old, also married his brother's wife Iman, who is one year older than he. 'Because I love my brother so much, who is now a martyr, I decided to take care of his wife and his only child.'

One young man, Jibril al-Na'ooq, 20, married the 25-year-old wife of his dead uncle, and thus taking on the care of his two young cousins.

A widow from the city of Khan Younis who declined to give her name said 'today I'm getting married to the brother of my martyr husband. I am so happy for this marriage.'

'I feel that my husband is resting in peace now because his brother will take care of me and my children,' she added, speaking out from the black veil that revealed only her green eyes.

A video circulating on the Internet, titled "Hamas shocking mass wedding for 450 little girls," purports to show children who appear to be about 8 to 10 years old being married off in a mass Hamas ceremony last week. Little girls in what appear to be wedding dresses are filmed arriving in cars and then walking down an aisle with the grooms.Hamas has strongly denied Internet rumors and blog reports claiming the Palestinian Islamic group last week held a mass ceremony at which little girls were married off.

The video and related pictures generated scores of blog postings making similar claims that Hamas was marrying off hundreds of little girls.

WND received a large volume of e-mail asking the news organization to investigate.

Hamas indeed held a mass ceremony last Thursday in which nearly a thousand Palestinians celebrated marriage. Many of the families involved said they could not afford their own wedding party. Each groom received a present of about $500 from Hamas, which said its workers had also contributed 5 percent of their monthly salaries to add to the wedding gift.

Ahmed Jarbour, the Hamas official in Gaza responsible for social activity, told WND the youngest girl to marry at the ceremony was 16 years old. He said most brides were above the age of 18.

Jarbour, like two other top officials contacted by WND, was offended by the suggestion Hamas would marry off little girls.

He explained the minors seen in the video were family of the bride or groom. He said it was tradition for little girls to dress in gowns similar to the bride. He said the little girls walking down the aisle with the grooms are family members of either the bride or groom.

A WND review of the video found some of the little girls, speaking in Arabic, state they are at the wedding of a family member. The girls interviewed do not say anything about themselves getting married.

Multiple calls to Palestinians who participated in the wedding affirmed the little girls are not themselves the brides.

Hamas, meanwhile, hailed the wedding ceremony as a victory.

"We are saying to the world and to America that you cannot deny us joy and happiness," Mahmoud al-Zahar, Hamas' chief in Gaza, told the grooms at the event.

Another reason to question Islam

As those of us who have studied the origins of Islam know, the Quran was written by 3 Jews and one of us, Salman Farsi, the most wicked traitor to the Iranian culture.

In fact, Islam can be defined as a Jewish sect, not that I'm against Jews. Is it so hard to believe that the Jews were behind the fantastic stories of the Torah, Bible and the Quran? Aren't those tales, a world of make-belief as well, just like today's Hollywood stories?

The point is, human beings (Jews) wrote the old biblical and Quranic tales (that's why vengeance and violence is common to all 3 religions) and they're still writing fantastic stories today in Hollywood.

Thank you for your kind words, it's appreciated. Your native American story was very interesting -- how they thought you were a native. And their story is very sad, indeed. They're not only losing their culture and language, but the rate of alcoholims and illiteracy and poverty is so much higher amongst native Americans than other minority groups in America.

And it's true, once people lose their language, they have lost their culture, and original identity. The Egyptians are a prime example. Thanks to Islam, the culture and language of ancient Egypt is lost to history.

And Setareh Chesmackzan -- I'm sorry, every time I see a zionist basher on this site espousing support for the "poor Palestinains,", it smacks of a Hezbollahi with false emotions.

Where is your PROOF, by the way, that the child bride video is false? Are we supposed to accept on its face the claim of a pro-Palestinian professor in America as FACT, one who sounds like a Zionist basher as well? And we all know how perversely liberal American university professors are these days. How do we know for a FACT that this video is false? Why did these girls wear so much makeup? And why were the men holding their hands?

There are NO rituals of sex with animals and intentionally hurting and abusing animals in Islam.  Dogs are considered unclean (nadjes) but there is no ritual or prescription for hurting them.  I love dogs, I have two dogs and I know keeping them in the house is unclean and unhygienic but I don't mind, I love them!  They roll in fox shit and lick their bottoms and for anyone to claim they are not unclean, they must re-examine their own hygiene standards!!!  In Muslim societies including Iran, Muslim shepherds keep dogs for herding and many other Muslims keep dogs as guard dogs in kennels but not in the house itself.  

The prescriptions by Khomeini in relation to how to respond in cases of sexual abuse of animals are in fact  not exclusive to Islam, they originate from Judaism and appear in the Torah.  All of them!!  They must have been prescriptions on how to deal with a social reality of that time (and now), that is, sexual abuse of animals, particularly in the countryside. These prescriptions at that time might have served a function such as ensuring the meat of a possibly infected animal is not consumed.   Now, in case it needs saying (!) I am not supporting it!!!  I am however making a point that it is important to avoid the trap of bigotry of either fanatically obeying or fanatically attacking these 'rituals', prescriptions and beliefs; it is important to try and view them in their historical contexts.

 I agree with you on that. I studied Linguistics before, that is why I am obsessed with words a lot. My family camps in National Parks a lot 'cause it is fun and also not too expensive, it does not cost too much. One time we drove thru American Indian Reservation and stopped for a rest, I bought a copy of their newspaper "Navajo Nation"( I love to read, but there is no Internet during camping). There was an article on language issue that they want to teach American Indian children the Navajo language, they even offer submersion classes to save their language and culture. The conclusion from the article is that if you lose your language, you lose your culture. The sad thing is that many American Indians can't speak their language anymore. I saw the statistics in the paper, it is pathetic, very few Indian children know their language. The funny thing is that they always thought I am American Indian, and they stared at me big time, I told them I am not and they don't believe me and they even offered me discount for their American Indian jewelry, like necklaces. I accepted the discount and spent a lot of $$$ on Indian-made necklaces! It is lucky that Persian language has written form, so it is easier to preserve. Some of the languages have no written forms, they can only be preserved by speaking the language or tape-record the language, Hawaiian language is like that.

I was totally confused last night. At 1st I saw Vildemose's video post with the adjective "appalling", so I played the video. I felt that those are flower girls, I was waiting to see the brides, I thought the brides never showed up, and then I saw this little girl with heavy make-up and gold eye-shadow, she wore a green scarf. I told myself, wow!, she must be Mousavi supporter? Maybe that is why this video is "appalling", and then I saw whole bunch people waving flags, I realized that it is neither Iranian flags nor Iraqi flags....later I read Sassan's comments, I realized that those girls are childbrides, and then I went to a website with all the flags in the world, I matched the flag in the video with Jodanian flag.... and then, later I found the original website for the video, I realized that they are Palestinians. The confusing part is that Palestinian flag and Jordanian flag are eerily similar:

I am sure you will find the truth, it is kind of strange that no one in the world objected to that if there was such a thing going on . I once saw an email by one of my colleagues who showed a man putting a child's arm under a truck and the title says islamic punishment for stealing and this Christian guy was amzaed at the brutality, I mentioned to him that I haven't heard such a thing but when I searched " urban legends " website  //urbanlegends.about.com/ to find out if there is such a hoax, it was revealed that it was done by a Jewish organization.     I have several hypothetical scenarios.

A) It can be very innocent, for example:

1) They are making a movie about "getting married"

2) It is not a wedding, just some kind of celebration

3) The guys are the dads, the girls are daughters! The whole thing is a just big misunderstaning! there are no brides and no grooms.

B) It can be very scary, like, it is a real wedding! (I hope not!)

C) It is an engagement! The guy gets the girl, but they are not consummated until the girl is 18 years old.

I think we have to know what they were talking about.

I am hoping, it is not true! If it is true, it is saaaad!

Another thing is where are the parents of those girls? How can they give away their kids like that!? It is just shameful!

I don't know Arabic to see what they say or if the kids in the wedding dress are actually brides or brid'e mates ! but anyway there is lots of it going on in Afghanistan and Yemen .  According to Ayatullahs, you can rub yourself against any girl older than 1 year to satisfy your sexual desires. These are barbaric Arabic customs perpetuated by Islam.

Hello to you -- I'm not absolutely certain, but I got an email from a friend with the same shocking video and he, a muslim Iranian, told me that they are in fact "child brides."

Other than that, I'm not sure. It doesn't matter where this occured, it's sickening and wrong IF it is what it appears to be. They must be brides, did you see the amount of "make-up" the girls were wearing -- they were made up to literally look like brides!

God, I HOPE I'm wrong!
