SHIVA PAKDEL
With Iran in my heartIranian art forms have a long tradition and distinctive style, as exemplified in architecture, carpets, painting, ceramics, metal ware, and woodwork. As a lover of Persian Art and a collector of antique Iranian stamps from 1880 on, I experiment with combining images created in the Qajar era (1794 - 1925) with stamps of the same period mixed in with calligraphy and sometimes poetry. I use printing and collage to bring in the pieces from different sources, including old ceramic images on Qajar monuments, paintings, manuscripts, calligraphy, and stamps together. Using colored pencil and acrylic paint, I create new images that can promote public awareness and appreciation of the beautiful Qajar art as well as the culture and politics of the mid 19th century Iran. Other works on display I also work on canvas on a series entitled "faces of her“, a mix of acrylic and oil, but on wood as a medium, rather than the typical cloth canvas. The end result is more organic natural and modern.
