My War with the Americans

As a result of my personal experiences, I have become completely guarded against most Americans

My War with the Americans
28-May-2008

This begins with a personal story. For eight years now, I have been at war with a few lunatic Americans currently residing in Colorado, California, New Mexico and Kansas, who have been responsible for several years of harassment, slander, libel, stalking, interference with employment and other felonies. These individuals have all received legal warnings and orders per their ongoing activities but as my lawyers have claimed, when dealing with people who are mentally ill, deluded and incapable of understanding what the law means, you can expect them to continue their illegal activities until they land in jail or have every penny they have taken away from them.

Racism is rampant in the U.S., despite the fact that this country claims vehemently that it’s a melting pot. My above-mentioned enemies are a bunch of white Americans of either Protestant or Catholic backgrounds, and it’s unlikely that they would continue their defamation, harassment, stalking and so on if they were dealing with a born-and-bred American instead of an Iranian Muslim.

After 9/11, there was a tremendous backlash against Arab-Americans and other ethnic minorities of Middle Eastern descent. One could argue that given the tragedy of what happened and the atrocious actions of Al Qaeda, it’s only natural that Americans would feel resentment. The same racism was displayed to average Iranians living or studying in the US during the Hostage Crisis, even though the majority of these individuals were vehemently opposed to the Islamic Republic and its actions toward the US embassy officials in Tehran.

Having worked as a writer, editor, researcher and online producer for a number of news organizations in the US, I have been astonished that I have worked with so few minorities. During 20 years of employment, I have worked with only six African-Americans, two Asians, and three Indians. The significance of this fact is that the majority of top executives and editors who control the news are still white Americans.

As a result of my personal experiences, I have become completely guarded against most Americans. I find a majority of them to be liars, malicious, narrow-minded, disrespectful, rude and unaware of the cultures and traditions of other nations and religions. Although I have some solid and stable American friends who are trustworthy, decent people, most of my social circle consists of foreigners.

Before we jump to conclusions, it’s important to say that I have also worked with some American colleagues and bosses, who are kind, intelligent, worldly people who truly command respect. One can never generalize, but given what the world is today, it’s important to remain cautious and to see the majority of average Americans for what they are.

Many would argue that as Iranians who live in the US, we should be grateful for the generosity America has bestowed upon us. I am not arguing that America—the so-called great melting pot—has also allowed revolution-struck Iranians to find shelter here, but when push comes to shove, are most of us still considered “foreigners” or Iranian-Americans?

I have spoken to several Iranians and other foreigners who reside in the US, and the answer is generally the same: I am considered American as long as I don’t oppose the US government or criticize Americans. Therefore, given this sentiment, we can assume that there are conditions placed on being accepted as an American. As the great Albert Einstein once said: “Should my theory of relativity should prove correct, Germany will claim me a German and France will declare that I am a citizen of the world. Should my theory prove untrue, France will say that I am German and Germany will declare that I am a Jew.”

The older I get, the more “Iranian” I become, interestingly enough. I have an affinity for my culture, language and traditions and also those of Europe, where I was raised as a child. I date Iranian or other Middle Eastern or European men; most of my trusted friends are foreign; and I have lately become more involved with Iranian cultural organizations.

Perhaps another study twenty years from now of Iranian children born and bred in the US will provide a different result. But for now, most of us who weren’t born here, still consider ourselves Iranians and have on occasion battled racism to some degree or another, as have other ethnic minorities in the US.

As for my own personal war with these Americans in Colorado, California, New Mexico and Kansas, if the law doesn’t destroy them, then vengeance will. We are, after all, the people who have always believed “an eye for an eye….”

To Bijan: Read this response

by Tara ******* (not verified) on

Bijan,

FYI: I forwarded this article (which is an opinion piece as is clearly stated) to a number of Americans I know, a few of whom also work in the media as I do, and the majority of the responses I received from these Americans was that it's about time that ethnic groups in this country vocalize the bad treatment and discriminination they have received as a result of a few Americans who are racist and feel that they can harass, defame, and so on freely. I hope this is perfectly clear. This is the American consensus I heard.

Just because you have a well-adjusted attitude, as you claim, do NOT speak on behalf of anybody else or imagine that you can place yourself in my shoes or other African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Native Indians, Arab-Americans or anybody else who feels they have been unfairly treated.

Perhaps you should read all the studies about the rise of discrimination in this country after September 11th, and then you might not be so judgmental.

What a disgrace….

by Bijan A M on

Why would the editors of Iranian.com allow publication of such a racist and hate promoting article?. There has to be a limit to “nothing is sacred”.

Brilliant writing skills or not, this article clearly and violently screams and whines about being victim of racism. It is quite obvious that Ms ******* needs to seek help to adjust her attitude, in spite of her bad experiences.

I came to this debate, late, but had the fortune of reading most of the comments and very much appreciate the insightful posts by Appalled, LanceRaheem, Farhad Kashani, Azarin, Ali P, Infidel, Varjavand,…. and specially Chicagodad. Your posts are extremely generous in demonstration of understanding, tolerance and civility in response to such a racist article. Your posts, collectively, express my views (within the realm of reality) about this great land of freedom, law & order and equal opportunity. Once you step out of the hallucination of idealism, there is no other place on the face of this earth (IMHO) that would treat any human being more fair than this land.

I have formed this opinion living here over 33 years and going thru many ups and downs. There have been many instances that I felt I have been discriminated against. But, when I sat down and thought about it objectively and was honest with myself, I realized that in majority of those cases I have been using discrimination as excuse for my lack of ability or qualification. I am not denying that I have faced prejudiced people (specially living in the south and what is known as Bible Belt of America), But you face those types anywhere around the world. What-the-heck, I saw 10 times worst in my own country, Iran.

Unfortunately a few rotten apples like Dariush are in any community and we have to recognize that fact, ignore them and hope that they don’t poison the mind of those who so warmly welcomed us here and treated us as one of their own.

Please do not dignify the likes of Dariush with a response, and let’s hope they will go away and do not embarrass the Iranian- American community with the kind of nonsense they post.

Dear all, I simply don't

by twins (not verified) on

Dear all,

I simply don't understand why "some" Americans in Colorado, California, New Mexico and Kansas are forcefully harassing... , ...& ... Tara!

Nor do I want to know what the whole story is.

She probably has good enough reason to dislike these same people who are bothering her, "BUT", let's remember the US has a population of over 303,000,000 and not ALL can be depicted the same way!

By the same token not all Chinese people can be considered one way or another since there are over 1,323,000,000( minus the ones who have lost their lives recently due to the quake -- may they RIP). I could go on and on giving numbers...

So why on earth would anyone want to GENERALIZE, and to this extent??!

Believe me even identical twins are not exactly the same in character, so how could we generalize a nation!

I believe there are good and bad apples in every barrel!

As I am sure many of you also agree, I too know of many truly wonderful Americans/friends who I would swear by. And this is no "Hendooneh under their arms", for sure!

On an individual basis, let's just work towards making this world a better place...

PS. I should know about twins, I have a pair(identical) and in many ways character-wise they are as different as day and night!

Wood on the Fire

by ZanAmrikai (not verified) on

I had to smile, ruefully, at the title to Farhad Kashani's post: TO ANY AMERICANS READING THIS. I sort of shook my head, laughing, thinking, "What are the Iranians with US passports then?!" knowing full well that there will be, "Well, YOU know what I meant!" comments in return...yes, you meant Americans who are not of Iranian descent, Americans who were born here, Americans who are not such as naturalized citizens. I would imagine there are many Iranians on this site who also just happen to hold US passports, and who could just as correctly be called "Americans." Isn't it interesting that no matter what, being Iranian comes first? It's true for my ex-husband and his family, and all other Iranians I've ever known. Indeed, I call my own children Half-Iranian or Half-Persian so that they don't lose site of their heritage. Even so, we in my family are all Americans, too.

I am the great granddaughter of immigrants--German, French, English, Swiss. A typical "cur" American. No doubt they thought of themselves as "Americans" once naturalized. It was just that way back then. People gave up heritage in order to reestablish themselves in the New Country.

I have often thought, in response to the term "African American" that the rest of us should start tagging ethnic or geographical markers onto "American" too. So, I guess my kids would be "German/French/English/Swiss--Persian/Luri--American." Hope you can all laugh at how these conversations can get going...

As for Tara's bad experience with some other "Americans" all I can say is what anyone who has lived for a while on Planet Earth knows--as Laura Ingalls Wilder's (the author of the "Little House" books) mother told her, "It takes all kinds of people to make a world, Laura." She was saying this in response to the jerks Laura worked for as a young teenager. Indeed, the world is fuller than ever with "all kinds of people." Luckily, some of us get a consciousness raising in this lifetime.

Chicago Dad sounded pretty fed up; I can understand that feeling, too. After enough listening to immigrants slam the US, it's like, "SHUT UP AND GO HOME--as you always call the country you came from!" But then, we "Americans" complain about others being jerks, too, but we aren't thinking we have somewhere we should "go back to;" it's just us venting. It's a fine line between venting normally and loathing where you are. Maybe it's time to check out living elsewhere if it impacts a life so negatively. If McCain gets elected, my God, even a White Chick like I am might be in Canada talking about "back home!"

Blessings to all, wherever you claim citizenship, whatever you call yourself. As for me, well, I'm just ZanAmrikai and in those two little words, lie much much more than my ethnic heritage--I can't even claim the Iranian part even though I've got that by marriage! ;^)

To Chicago Dad

by Tara ******* (not verified) on

Sir,

Regarding your initial post, please note that if you had read my article, you would realize that I clearly state that I have some American friends whom I respect and I have also had the privelege of working with a number of distinguished, kind, generous, intelligent Americans in the media whom I respect greatly.

This is an opinion piece I have written. It's only human nature that when a gang of American lunatics in Colorado, California, New Mexico, Kansas(who I am sure do not represent ALL Americans) have spent eight years harassing, slandering, libeling, and stalking you and your family with malicious intent, you would naturally become guarded and angry as a result.

These bitter, jealous, pathological-lying lunatics have ALL received several Cease and Desist warnings and other legal orders and fail to comprehend that they are still being investigated/prosecuted and that our goal is to throw them all in jail. It's also become apprarent to my attorney's that it's rather odd that their consistent harassment, defamation and other felonies are focused on somebody who is not a born-and-bred American.

I don't think any country in the world is truly perfect, but please understand that immigrants and ethnic minorities--particularly those who wish to cherish their religions and traditions--are given a tough time. There are always exceptions to the rule, but a number of us have to deal with discrimination.

Cordially,

Tara *******

Don't "Wake up, baba" me and do not lecture me!  Sir, have you no decency or shame?  You sulley the distinguished reputation of your community with your nonsensical ranting and babbling.  One might think that you have been smoking crack, or if not, one might conclude that you need to start smoking crack.

My mother taught me more manners as a child than you seem to be capable of showing as an adult.  No one said that America was a perfect place to live, but it's the only place that you seem to have right now.  Instead of being part of the problem of bashing it, why not try being part of the solution in trying to make it better.

You think that you are so superior to us don't you ?  You think that we are all bigots and racists, don't you?  Perhaps we are, but don't you think that you ought to worry about the bigotry in your own country against Iran's minority groups before you find so much fault with us?

This country is not perfect, but what place is?  It is interesting that you choose to live amongst such terrible people like us instead of amongst your own.  Could it be that you have "sold out?"  It sure looks that way to me.  You have every right to criticise America and Americans, but you out to remember that people who live in glass houses ought not throw stones.

Since you obviously know everything there is to know about everything, I'm sure you won't have any trouble with this Latin because it sums your attitude up very well.

Ingratus est, qui beneficium accepisse se negat, quod accepit: ingratus est, qui dissimulat; ingratus, qui non reddit; ingratissimus omnium, qui oblitus est.

One last thing, please refrain from mentioning my son again.   You have no right to speak of him in one of your insulting diatribes.  Surely, you have this much decency in you.

Human Rights Activists and others

I wonder what happened to fairness, Azaedohkt, Mitra and others who were raising hell over human rights and hijab in Iran, but when it comes to human rights in America you are quiet. I told you it is not about human right in Iran and a breeze for your cosine's hair. looks like I am more for women's right than you are, even though they don't wear hijab.

Farhad Kashani
I see a larger picture of what has happened and is happening. You only see a larger picture of yourself and not others!
I have all kind of friends from different nationality and religions that includes Americans. Some of them share the same opinions with me because they don't deny the truth. They also see and say it as it is, not as it suits them. Again just because you are doing well financially or are light skin or good looking and etc and therefore the system has not been discriminating toward you and has given you many opportunities, that doesn't mean it has been the same for others. Thanks to our backward back ground we are smart and can handle it and most of us are successful, but look and see how many forwarded Americans are suffering because they didn't have the same opportunities.

Try to look beyond your pocket book and your backyard!!!
You say you disagree with me. My answer to you should have been, "I don't care" with Arnold's accent, based on everything I have read in many of your postings, but still I wrote you a few lines.

Sadchicagodad,
Look around you and see what united states is doing around the world to bring you the comfort and opportunities you are so proud of. I call it bribe. I call it blood money. Bribe and blood money, so people go work two full time jobs to run the factories and make ends meal and fight for them when needed. They don't use chain these days, they use loans to slave people. Do you think people would join the army and go kill innocent people if it wasn't for paying the loans on homes, cars, school and etc?
System has created a false self interest for individuals making them to believe that what they do is in their interest, while they are just being used all their life by the system and corporations. I guaranty you, most of the people serving in the army would not have joined if they had no loans to pay. Even the criminals who are torturing and raping civilians around the world in the name of America's democracy, freedom, better life and comfort.

About being in US. Just like you have the right to change your name you also have the right to choose where to go and sometimes you make a mistakes that you have to live with. Often, when people come short in a debate they use this question.

The fact is, if America and England stop harassing other countries and stop making those countries a mess, they wouldn't leave their native country and go else where. As per you comments on current government in Iran, Yes if it wasn't for America and England Iran would be much better place than United States today. Should I remind you of Dr. Mosaddegh? Then, it would be you who would migrate to Iran to be safe from Racism and human rights violations and discrimination and serial killers and criminals of all kind, while the worst of them are dressed in suits in your government. Iran has been under constant war and pressure for the past 30 years. If United States was under such a pressure for a short time people would start killing and robbing each others and much more. Thanks God we have a rich culture and religion.
If you lost your son to a war, I feel very sad for you, but don't blame it on me! The system used you and your son with words. The same system started a war on Iran and killed a million, some of them were my relatives and best friends like brothers and sisters. Look and see! People in your government are not sending their kids to war! If there was any patriotism in them, shouldn't there be a drop of it in their children?
This is all a business of fool and rule in states and divide and concur in the rest of the world.
wake up baba, wake up!

we may be a little off the track here. Let's help Tara with human rights violations toward her.

To Daryush: We are not

by anti-daryush (not verified) on

To Daryush:
We are not speaking the point of origin of science!

The Islamic World has not contributed anything to humanity in more than 500 years.

Those hypocritical disinformation of yours are pathetic. Coming from an Islamists/muslim who's ancestors (your prophet) have a proud and bloody tradition of stealing other people's land, bigotry (Infidel vs muslims), discrimination (Dar-al-harb vs Dar-al Islam) and enslaving them, and are so darned angry that they are constantly stopped from pulling it off today.

As I have written before in other threads, Iran and all other "Arab" states - including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, as well as the entity under the Palestinian Authority - were originally non-Arab nations that were conquered by the Muslim Arabs when they spread out from the Arabian peninsula in the first great wave of jihad in the 7th century, defeating, killing, enslaving, dispossessing, converting, or reducing to the lowly status of dhimmitude millions of Christians and Jews and destroying their language (ancient and flourishing civilizations. Prior to being Christian, of course, these lands had even more ancient histories. Phraonic Egypt, for example, was not an Arab country through its 3,000-year history. Muslim armies had been busy conquering much of northern Africa, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, and Spain, which had been some of the most heavily Christian areas in the world. The Reconquista in Spain was the first major effort by Christians to retake lost territory, which occupied Spanish knights and some mercenaries from elsewhere in Europe in the fight against the Islamic Moors. Elsewhere, the Normans were fighting for control of Sicily, while Pisa, Genoa and Aragon were all actively fighting Islamic strongholds in Mallorca and Sardinia, freeing the coasts of Italy and Spain from Muslim raids.
Because of these ongoing wars, the idea of Holy War against the Muslims was not implausible to the European nations. Muslims had occupied the center of the Christian universe, Jerusalem, which, along with the surrounding land, was considered one giant relic, the place where Christ had lived and died. In 1074, Pope Gregory VII called for the millets Christi ("soldiers of Christ") to go to the aid of the Byzantine Empire in the east. The Byzantines had suffered a serious defeat at the hands of the Seljuk Turks at the Battle of Manzikert three years previously. This call, while largely ignored and even opposed, combined with the large numbers of pilgrimages to the Holy Land in the 11th century, focused a great deal of attention on the east. Reports of Muslims abusing Christian pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem and other Middle Eastern holy sites further stoked the crusading fervor. It was Pope Urban II who first disseminated to the general public the idea of a Crusade to capture the Holy Land with the famous words: "Deus vult!" ("God wills it!")
So my muslim friends - please dont pull the wool over our eyes. Statements like "If ALL Muslims were so obsessed with violence and killing non-Muslims, you wouldn't be alive today" is crap because we will pre-empt that, nip it in the bud and make sure that humanity lives on. Those days when muslims invaded kingdom after kingdon, exterminating the local population and culture, have gone....this is a multicultural, multiethnic world - if muslims don’t fit in then they are digging their own graves.

The more people achieve, the closer they get to the glass celing that is all too often invisible to thoese that settle for mediocraty. If Iranians are showing great success, rest assured nobody is giving them a hand out and in fact our system is benefiting from their talent and leadership.

And when the system doesn't backup its rehtoric about equality, then it's very caring and american of you to object, and blind of others to criticise, be it directly or otherwise.

My story

by Ali P. on

At the same time, and age, I came to America, Abdul-Rahman went to Iran from Afghanistan.

Abdul-Rahman shared a common language, a common religion, a long border ,and very similar looks and customs with his host country.

I didn't speak English, did not share a religion, or a border, or similar looks and customs with my host country.

25 years later, this country has let me be, and also embraced me. I have taken advantage of the opportunities offered, and I am grateful. I have had a good life here. I have never been harrassed, while carrying my nationality (Iranian) on my sleeve. Not even once have I said anything other than "Iranian" when asked about my nationality or ethnicity.

I count: I can freely practise my religion, own property, vote, critisize the government and travel using a US passport.

And as far as Abdul-Rahman is concerned ? After 25 years of harrassment and being degraded, with no right to citizenship, or even property ownership,, now he's forced to go back to Afghanistan.

I am not claiming everyone's story is the same. But for every one of YOU, Tara, out there, there are quite a few of US.

I am one of those Americans who you so aptly describe as liars, malicious, narrow-minded, disrespectful, rude bigots that are clueless about other cultures.  I plead on behalf of my fellow white trailor-trash citizens guilty as charged.  There is no way that we could ever be as enlightened and sophisticated as our Iranian-American fellows.  How could we be, for only a few generations ago we were subhuman trash, and thanks to you both, we are reminded of just how little we have progressed.

I would never stoop so low as to suggest that if you don’t like it, you are free to go somewhere else.  This is your country, too.  Unfortunately, you have no choice but to share it with Neanderthals like us.  I am gratified, however, to know that so many of our young men and women over the years made the ultimate sacrifice for the country, so that you are now able to inform us of how terrible we are.  Thank you, for reminding us lest we forget and begin to think we are approaching anything close to being human.  We are a selfish, hateful, vindictive, arrogant, inhospitable, and miserly people.  We are wretches, indeed.

The Iranian-Americans that I feel most sorry for are those like the young poster, Lance Raheem whose pure and pristine Persian blood has been infected with American chromosomal filth.  He is like the son I once had, half-Persian and half-American.  My son, like Lance, was genetically polluted with the feculent genes of an inferior American father.  Perhaps, I should be happy that my son will never have to hear those like you tell him the truth of his genetic inferiority.

We are racists in America, for sure. Thank God the Arabs, Bahais and other minority groups inside your beautiful homeland do not have to experience the type of discrimination that we, the evil white people, so coldly practice each and every day.   We are despicable.  I am glad that you have not “sold out.”  We are worthy of your hate and condescension.  I would like you to know that we’ve had a few amongst us that have not “sold out.”  People like Timothy McVeigh, Ted Kaczynski and Charles Manson are just a few who come to mind that didn’t “sell out.”  They inflicted upon our rabid and detestable society exactly what we deserve.

I am very sorry that you made the decision to come here.  There are so many other countries in the world with enlightened and gracious people that I’m sure threw their doors open to the Iranian Diaspora.  Surely, we filthy, low-class, ignorant Americans tricked you into coming here.  The only reason, I can think, that we did this was so that we could discriminate against you and treat you with unkindness.  What can be expected from filth like us.  I won’t asked for your forgiveness because we are not worthy of any Iranians forgiveness.  We are scum.

Now, I must stop writing and go tell my Iranian wife of thirty years that I do not love or respect her, her people, her culture or her country.  I must go and confess to her that I tricked her into marriage just so that I could hurt her and humiliate her.  This is what we Americans do best after all.

You keep saying I hate Americans. If I hate them, why would I be dating these beautiful American women. Do You see how wrong you are?

You are right about the system though. There is less bureaucracy here. After all it is capitalism. The sooner you make money the sooner you pay taxes. The more you make the more you pay. But about equal rights you are wrong. From jobs to schools to financial institutions to much more.

You say Indians are happy. I have been to their villages and reservations and talked to them. They are not happy. As a matter a fact they are very very bitter.

You say Indians have so much money they lend to government. The Indians I saw didn't even had electricity. Are you sure you are talking about Indian Americans not Indians from India?
Lending money? Are you referring to the scandal over the casino, when a few white men with connections to some congress men conned the Indians out of several million Dollars. The Indian in congress said: when a snake wants to attack it warns you, but these white men were even worse than snake, they attacked with no warning. By the way some were Jews and told the Indians we know how you feel, we have been though the same injustices you have been through.

The Indians were just the beginning, look at today!!!

I live under the same system as you do, so I know exactly were you come from. The different between me and you is that, you are for sale and I am not.

Dariush, I disagree with

by Farhad Kashani (not verified) on

Dariush, I disagree with Tara and you both. And let me answer you:
- “The piece of pie” we achieved is exactly another reason that proves our argument that the U.S gives equal opportunity to everyone regardless of their race, religion,,or other things. I think you’re discrediting your own argument.
- As for as “our own hard work”, many Iranians work their a@@ off in Iran, Dubai, Kuwait, Europe and elsewhere…but they get nothing in return because the system is set up in a way that does not provide equal opportunity or “opportunity” at all. But when they come to U.S, their hard work, gives result because of the system that provides opportunity. So yes, we do work hard, but it’s the system that guarantees us opportunity.
- About the Indian argument, let me give you a little lesson here. When Aryans entered Iran, there was a civilization called the “Ilamis” living there. Those people got exterminated by the Aryans gradually either through force or marriage. Even the province of Ilam is not settled by Ilamites anymore, rather a group called “lak”, a mixture of Kurds and Lors, both Aryans. However, in future centuries, Iran, as a whole, became a great civilization admired by most of the world even today. Back to the Indians, first of all, yes, what the Europeans did was absolutely wrong. Now, there is a country that is established with a population of Indians that some have grown so powerful and rich that they even lend money to the federal government. Increasingly, their heritage is being respected and promoted. Please name me one Ilamite tradition still alive in Iran. Furthermore, many and increasingly more and more Indians and whites regard the forceful occupation of Europeans of Indian territories as a thing way in the past and both have moved on. That’s how successful nations operate. They are not stuck in history. So why are you and like minded people stuck in a blackhole? Isn’t this another sign of blind hatred for the U.S?
- Self criticism is one of the biggest differences between most Iranians and most Americans. Americans do it, we don’t. We are so proud that our nose is stuck way up in the skies, and that’s why we don’t see the hole in front of us which always cases us to fall in it. Constructive criticism is an American tradition. Please don’t try to say you’re criticizing America, what you have is undoubtedly “blind hatred”.
- As far as the name change goes,,,as you can tell, I didn’t change my name and I never will and all my American friends have been taught to say it. Now, Dariush, lets say you go to live in Cambodia (Although we absolutely know all you U.S haters will never give up U.S passport!!!), undoubtedly you will almost never be able to pronounce their names, and probably neither would I. Does that make you and me stupid?

Infidel

I am not for destruction of no country that includes America. Again you can not handle criticism and truth perhaps because you feel you are betraying United states for what you have achieved and never mind about the others.
I watched the link.
The truth is:
Science, medicine and technology didn't started with America, it started from Iran, china, Rome, Greece and others. The problem with some Americans is that they like you think world was created 200 years ago when America was discovered. If you can call it a discovery.
I saw a T-Shirt It said: I have been fighting terrorism since 1834 with a picture of Geronimo above it.
Yes, if there was no America, American Indians wouldn't be slaughtered, blacks wouldn't be lynched, millions wouldn't be dead and injured, Israel wouldn't exist to commit genocide, Saddam wouldn't be put in power, Iran wouldn't have all these problems and on and on and on.
If they fought Hitler, they have only done what was in their so called interest. It just happens that seldom it benefits the world as well. Same is true about internal policies. They were made to protect the white man's interest and still is to large extend. It just happens that you benefit from it to certain extend.
Freedom of speech?
A Palestinian professor in Florida has been in jailed a few years and a Palestinian teacher was duct taped and was thrown in a lake in Texas two months ago for practicing their freedom of speech. They were U.S. citizens and have been in States for over 30 years. Many white Americans have made the same speeches and more and were never arrested. Again freedom of speech is not for us, we are taking big chances.
Sadly a lot of good things that Americans may have achieved are from the bloodshed of innocent people and continues to be.

For Daryush: You are using

by infidel (not verified) on

For Daryush:

You are using the Internet and peddling your venmous anti-American hatred on the screen precisely because America invented this technology.

The fact that you're able to fly and not die of polio and other diseases or get the best education in the West is precisely because the American technology helped Iran to extract the oil which made Iran much richer than it could have ever imagined. What kind of Islamic Technology dictated by quron would have discovered the oil in the first place? Who would have build those refinareis still in operation in Iran? Which Islamic technology would have provided the vast markets and innovation, industries that are oil related???

The fact that you're free here to discuss the destruction of America while living in America is proof positive that a world without America would be a much nastier place with the likes of you who support totalitarian and inhumane governments such as the Islamic Republic.

Some of this is propaganda but the core idea is very much valid:

Dear Tara: Despite my

by varjavand on

Dear Tara:

Despite my busy schedule I felt obligated to post another comments:

After careful reading of all the other comments, these are the summaries of what I have learned:

·         Your very personal experience with a bunch of white Americans is not typical and, I believe, does not warrant such an inaccurate generalization

·         Most of us, including myself, have made a conscious decision to live in this country and accepted this society , inherited its past, benefited from its opportunities, and  yes have to deal with its vulgarities

·         Racism and prejudice is not unique to this country, it exists everywhere. It is a private matter that is illegal if it influences one’s public life and decisions

·         Hardship should not force us to lose our faith and commit a damaging lapse in judgment

·         We should search for common ground especially at this critical era; confrontation does not get us anywhere

·         Remember, no matter how long we may have been here and regardless of our status, we are still like gusts in this country and should be respectful to our host

I spent some time reading your other articles online. I have found you a marvelous writer, highly articulated. Given your remarkable writing skills, it should be very easy, and I think appropriate, for you to write a follow up piece shedding some additional lights on the controversial issues you have raised in your article and a possible recantation.

I was talking to Kaveh...

by Azarin Sadegh on

hi cyrus-,

You seem in bad mood :-)

I just responded to Kaveh's comment and he responded back to me. He had obviously understood my reply, but if there are points that are not clear to you, I could try to clarify it so you could understand them too.

Tara

The reason some people do not want to agree with you is for the piece of pie they have achieved. Unfortunately they even credit America for their own hard work. It doesn't matter to them if American Indians were slaughtered and blacks were lynched and other countries around the world were destroyed as long as they were given a very tiny share in some form or shape.
They think being in U.S. and speaking against America and Americans unjust actions is a form of betrayal. On the contrary I think It shows that we are for justice and not for sale no matter how much and what was offered as bribe.
I understand why some Iranians change their names, because some Americans are so stupid that they can't even learn to say a name right and you know all the other reasons.
But a name change is nothing compare to many other thing they Iranians change.
As I said once in another blog. Some are like lizard. They can easily lose their values and adopt to their surroundings.

Shame on You!

by Appalled (not verified) on

Dear Tara,

I appreciate how you must feel. Obviously your "Personal Experience" with "White Americans" has not been positive. This is what you said and I quote" As a result of my personal experiences, I have become completely guarded against most Americans. I find a majority of them to be liars, malicious, narrow-minded, disrespectful, rude and unaware of the cultures and traditions of other nations and religions". You have also said that you have been "Employed" for 20 years by these same people with whom you are in "WAR" with. Excuse me but isn't that the height of hypocrisy on your part? How can you call people who have given you a job and let you put food on the table and shelter over your head while living safe and secure in their country, RACISTS? I am sorry to tell you this but, Shame on you.
What gives you the right to pass judgment on the so called White Americans. Have you or any of your Iranian or foreign friends who live and work here ever done anything to defend this country in the time of war? I assume that you are a US citizen and took the citizenship oath to defend this country against all enemies " Foreign and Domestic". Obviously you haven't done so and instead you are here bitching about what a racist country this is instead of serving in the armed forces at this time of war! Shame, Shame on you.
I wish you put your time and energy in more positive pursuits instead of complaining about people who are the most generous on the earth. My dad who is 84 years old recently had open heart surgery by a White American doctor. He received the same if not better care than any other "White" patient would receive. He was not told that he had to wait for his operation because he is Iranian or that he is on Medicare or this and that. Do you know how the medical care is in Iran by your fellow non racist Iranian Doctors? Well if you already don't know let me tell you. You have to pay the Doctor ahead of any treatment in full, buy and bring all the medical supplies with you to the hospital, pay for all your meals etc, etc. And this is if you are lucky enough to have the money to pay for all this.

No my dear Tara, the problem is not with the White Americans. The problem is with you. As somebody else has already suggested to you, why do you live here then? Is anybody stopping you from leaving?

I'm sure there are bad seeds....

by K Nassery on

I'm sorry is some people have given you a hard time.  Americans have difficulties dealing with other Americans too.  I'm sure Iranians have difficulties dealing with Iranians.  I am an American and I feel the wives of the Indian doctors' living in my city have treated me unfairly and gossiped unkindly about me, but I still have to be cordial  towards them because their husbands work with my husband.  That's life.

As to Iranian names vs American names,  Immature people  make fun of last names too.  My name was Chase and kids found ways to make fun of that name.

The author of this post writes beautifully even if I think she might be a tad too sensitive about people's reactions to her.
