ru-rast can rot in hell right along with you. it has nothing to do with this culture or any other. It has nothing to do with CHILDREN being sexual active. I can't hardly read the rest of what you say. Youare one sick individual.
Assal: Thanks god for a reasonable comment. You must have a teenage daughter and I am sure you do the best you can to protect her. They must have some contact with young men in order to LEARN. But you CAN have both!!! Limited freedom AND control. Being sexual naive is not the same thing as being sexualy innocent. I do not WANT a naive daughter. I want a smart and safe one!
Dear Assal:
by Ru-Rast (not verified) on Fri Jun 05, 2009 01:29 PM PDTThank you for taking time to write a very rational reply. Of course we should all worry and try to protect our teenagers, but I really don't think this show is accomplishing this.
I also didn't mean to turn this into a cultural debate; I don't condemn or consent either American or Iranian approach for dealing with teenage sexuality. And I also didn't mean to imply that all American teenage girls are sluts.
You mentioned that those teenage girl's sexual experiences are with their peers and boys their own age, but how do you know this is always the case? It is a fact that there are many teenagers in this country who are sexually very aggressive. This may be an extreme example, but you may have heard about those teenage girls who dared eachother to seduce and get pregnent by a homeless man and actually went through with it. The homeless guy who was probably just struggling to survive let alone even think about sex with anyone, was sent to jail and the teenage girls were treated as vitims. In case you weren't aware of it, this is a true story and was told in some investigative report program on national TV last year.
My objection to this show is to the way they trap people who otherwise may have never pursued sex with a teenager. If they really want to catch sexual predators, they should have their teenage girl in chat rooms impersonate an innocent girl, one who as you put it, only longs for male companionship and being able to pretend she has a boyfriend. Not someone whose ONLY agenda is to trick the guy to come to the house where they trap them.
I am neither a psychologist nor a sociologist, but it is a fact that every human being has a dark side, sexually or otherwise. This includes you, me, and these self-righteous idiots who are taking pleasure in this poor guy's demise and whose only response to those who don't share their ignorance is to insult them. What makes us good or evil is how much we are able repress or accomodate our dark sides.
It seems to me that this show's strategy to trap people, purpose or inadvertently, leads the victims to beleive that they would not be harming anyone by accepting the invitation.
Lets say some how I convinced you that you can actually go somewhere, pick up a million bucks of Bill Gate's wealth, walk away with it, and you will never be held responsible. We all know that stealing is wrong, but how many people would refuse if they were given the chance to take a million dollars of Bill Gate's money and get away with it?
Since I beleive this would really not harm Bill Gate that much, I would do it. But if I was told I can have a $1 of a poor hard-working family man's hard-earned money, I would never take it.
I hope you can see the analogy here because it takes some time for me to elaborate and I really have to get back to work.
Wish you the best of luck and success in raising your teenage kids.

by Assal B. (not verified) on Thu Jun 04, 2009 11:37 AM PDTSome of you who are defending this guy's rights have been making the argument that this is America and you sound like you're saying that all American 12 yr old girls are sluts.
I agree with you that American tweens (11-14) are given more freedom to experiment sexually. If they aren't given it, they take their freedoms without the kind of fear that Iranian kids have. American girls may kiss and get to third base with boys when they're 12/13 and they may even have their first sexual experiences as young as 14/15/16. The important thing to realize is that these experiences are usually with their peers, boys their own age, in school, kids they meet at the mall, their neighbor's kids. I'm not worried about these girls. They have learned things about the opposite sex, even at an early age.
I worry about the Iranian girl who you think is so naive and innocent. I worry for her because her parents keep her under lock and key. They don't let her go to school dances where she'll hold a boy's hand, she can't have boys call her and talk to them so she can learn how they lie, she won't have her first kiss with her first date. She won't learn that boys will say anything they can to get you to give them a kiss and will turn around and make fun of you to their friends when they got what they were looking for. These little life experiences are harmless, but our naive Iranian girl will never learn them.
She won't go out. She'll stay at home, under house arrest, in her room with her computer to keep her company. Longing for male companionship, she'll seek it out online, on her computer, where her parents won't be able to stop her. She'll talk to men who pretend to be her age and she'll be happy because she'll finally be able to pretend to have boyfriends like her friends at school have. They'll send her pictures of them (fake pics) and make her think they are her age. They'll promise her fancy dates and flowers and candy, things she would know real boys never bring---she'd know that if her parents would have let her go out with Scooter, the kid next door.
I worry about this girl. She is innocent and she is the target of the sexual predator because she hasn't been taught any better ---she is too trusting. She is who I worry about.

by ru-rast (not verified) on Wed Jun 03, 2009 06:09 PM PDTWhy can't you engage in a polite debate and discuss the matter logically. Instead of telling me what I am and what is my mentality, try to convince me I am wrong;
Should age be the ONLY factor that determines responsibility and guilt in situations like these? Can we say ALL 18 year olds are sexually more aware and in control than all 17 year olds? An older person can easily be seduced, victimized, or taken advantage of by a younger but sexually more mature person.
In trying to observe and enforce our moral values, we Iranians (most of us, at least) limit our children's freedoms to explore and express their sexuality before they are mature enough, and in doing so we keep them sexually naiive and innocent.
But not all people in this country are like us; parents (though to different degrees) let their kids be sexually active from very early ages. So even as teenagers, so many of them are sexually more mature and in control than we are as adults.
When you see the NBC show, you probably imagine a sweet little girl very much like your own teenage doughter or niece; don't be naiive, you have no idea what some of these kids know and are capable of.
I know it is the law, but that doesn't make it right. So many laws in this country are fucked up. Age should not be the only factor to consider when deciding who is the victim and who is the criminal.
I think that asshole in NBC who runs this show is a typical representation of this countries' up-side down morality. He is ruining so many people's lives just to advance his own career and satisfy his selfish ambitions. If you think he is really concerned about our doughters, you are sadly mistaken.

by Assal B. (not verified) on Wed Jun 03, 2009 12:40 PM PDTAs of June 2004, 325 pedophiles have been convicted due to the work of Perverted Justice. Thanks to Dateline NBC and Chris Hansen, a show has been created that serves as an active deterrent to a disgusting and immoral crime. Police officers are underpaid and overworked in most of America's major cities, they lack the funding and manpower to go after would-be pedophiles and sadly are unable to really do anything until AFTER a child has been abducted or molested. PJ is out there working without profit, saving lives. Believe me, more 12 year old kids are on the internet satisfying their curiosity than you would think.
It's important to note that those whose images are actually displayed on PJ have to sign releases, and probably they are shown a slight amount of leniency in most cases for doing so; so screw your arguments about this guy's rights.
I would rather have this freak be arrested and ambushed and embarrassed and it to be aired on television to put fear in the minds of any other would-be predators; than risk the innocence and life of a child.
Shame on you who are turning so "politically correct" that you would dare put the rights of a sexually-stunted loser ahead of those of an innocent child.

by ru-rast-1 (not verified) on Tue Jun 02, 2009 04:19 PM PDTThe spirit of the law that forbids adults from having sex with minors is to protect 'innocent' minors from falling prey to sexual preditors who are pursuing and hunting them. But not all minors are sexually innocent and not all adults are the agressors in such cases.
It would be a totally different story if an adult took steps on his own to look for and decieve a minor into having sex, but this is exactly an opposite situation.
This is a society where most teenagers are sexually active; they are thought at school and home that not only having sex is OK, but are actually thought how to do it correctly and safely. There is really something wrong with punishing an adult because he is seduced by a minor who is sexually active anyway. In some respects, the minor benefits from this relationship more than the adult because an adult is likely to be sexually and emotionally more mature and therefore be more sensitive to the minor's emotional and sexual needs.
I think NBC's tachtiques in trapping these so-called pedophiles is criminal; they lay a trap for a person who otherwise may never pursue a minor for sex, and not only give him the opportunity but make him think that the girl is permiscious and willing to have sex with anyone and even if he refuses, she will do it with another person anyway.
I am sure a lot people agree with my point of view but don't have the courage to voice it because they are afraid to get labeled as a 'bahce baaz' or pedophile. This is an upside down society; on one hand it encourages teens in every way to become sexually active and in the process creates these permiscous teenage sexual predators, on the other hand they entrap and punish an unsuspecting victim in the most severe ways.

by deev-o-dad on Tue Jun 02, 2009 11:58 AM PDTI agree, he's sick, he's a dangerous, let's hope he won't ever be given the chance to prey on another young girl. But, part of me feels sorry for this guy. Allow me to explain...
Judging by the accent, he's fresh off the boat and comes from a place where young prostitutes are easier to find than a bottle of Johnny Walker Black (although, let's face it, both are pretty easy to find in a casual stroll down Tehran's Jordan Street). He probably came to the U.S. expecting free-flowing booze, loose morals, easy women, and a generally permissive society...talk about a rude awakening. Perhaps he should've stayed in Amsterdam instead of catching that connecting flight to L.A.!
Before you all jump down my throat, I'm not making excuses for this guy. Pedophilia is sick and wrong. I'm not forgiving him (read the first line). I just can't help but laugh at the odd culture shock he must've endured, thanks in part to the bizarre mixed signals we Americans send out to the world.

by aaminian on Fri May 29, 2009 04:14 PM PDTCapt_Ayhab, I have to agree with you that Iranian-Americans are among the most law-abiding citizens in the US.
I also believe that this guy is a sexual predator (read mentally off!) and he should serve some time and go through some of psycho-therapy. Let's face it, sex offenders come from all walks of life and the fact that this guy got caught should not/would not reflect negatively on the rest of the Iranian-American population.

Turning a crime such as paedophilia into reality show (ENTERTAINMENT??) achieves what? What's the deterrence factor it achieves? It's pure sensationalism in the good ol USA. This is akin to waving a bottle of alcohol infront of an alcoholic. I'm not defending this guy but this sort of thing is hardly constructive. by capt_ayhab on Fri May 29, 2009 09:35 AM PDTI kind of agree with you guys regarding the privacy, however,in my opinion, pedophilia is among the most heinous of all crimes since it is committed against helpless children.
People committing these sorts of crime should be known, marked so the unsuspecting children and families can be safe. Although this guy has not yet actually committed any crime, except the talk and attempt, but he should be given the maximum sentence allowed by law.
