BBC: Iranian state television has broadcast a statement by a captured Sunni rebel leader in which he alleges he had American support. It is not possible to say whether the man, Abdolmalek Rigi, made the statement freely or under coercion. The US has denied having links with the group, Jundullah. In the tape, Mr Rigi alleged the US had promised to provide his group with military equipment and a base in Afghanistan, near the Iranian border >>>

i wouldn't doubt that rigi
by hamsade ghadimi on Fri Feb 26, 2010 06:54 AM PSTi wouldn't doubt that rigi got support from the west, al qaeda, yemen, or saudi arabia. given iran's support of the militant shiite group in yemen, there are a lot of sunni arab states that have an axe to grind with iran. remember that yemen changed the name of one of their street in their capital from iran boulevard to neda agha soltan boulevard. it doesn't make it better who supports rigi. the root of the matter is rigi, as a religious person, wants to achieve his goal through violent means. i don't trust any person who is both religious and violent. we've seen the horrible outcomes in our country.
i do however believe that the sunnis should be able to practice their religion as they please (without violence), have their own mosques, their own imams, and all ethnic and religious groups be able to use their own language in schools and practice their faiths. separatist talks, hand in hand with israeli threat, are just nonesense and put out there to divert attention from iranian people's grievances and atrocities committed by iri.
Only two minutes of video and you can already see the BS
by Onlyiran on Fri Feb 26, 2010 06:48 AM PSThe says that he was approached by the Americans in Quetta, who offered him all kinds of sweetheart deals, including a base in Afghanistan. But then he says that they arranged for a meeting in Dubai. :-)) WTF?!!! Why Dubai?!!! The U.S. has tens of thousands of troops, CIA and intelligence officials in Afghanistan, and occupies the whole country. Why couldn't have they just taken him there across the border from Pakistan for their "grand meeting"? Why did they have to go all the way to Dubai?!!! Is it because Dubai has nicer executive office meeting spaces? :-))) Nooooo, it's because the IRI had to "place" him in Dubai to have his story jive with the fictional script that they wrote about their grand "operation". :)))
One really has to be mentally retarded to believe this dog and pony show!
This is similar to US supporting Osama
by Abarmard on Fri Feb 26, 2010 07:03 AM PSTMany of the US policies are based on short term gain, and that is the biggest reason for the US shortfall in long term political arena. Here is an example of the US wanting to create a similar group to Alqaida to fight for short term US interest, while in the long run, these extremist groups would turn to hurt the Western interests.
For those who are surprised at Rigi being supported by some NATO member countries, must realize the overall objective and strategies based on short term gain, and that would clarify reasons for such support.
Ultimately, suppose that such groups are successful and Baluchistan forms an independent country, in what sense would that serve the interest of the West, having a poor country, extremist government that is not much different than Taliban in Afghanistan?
That would only threaten the longevity of Western domination in the region in exchange of harsh and ideologically driven religious terrorists. However one should know that the US and the Western countries are not thinking that far and not imagining a Baluchistan as an independent country, yet their work will create a scenario that at many points will be out of their control.
Therefore, the US is making one mistake after another in dealing with the countries in the region and is in the dark about the long term strategies that would secure US interest in the region.
How credible is this for a change from Press TV.
by پیام on Fri Feb 26, 2010 05:09 AM PSTIn your face US of A. You are exposed. Yep, Tigi confessed on an Iranian TV station. So it must be the truth (NOT with a very big TTTTTTTTTTTT).
