Why should it have to??

that is a totally and absolutely subjective Pov. What about those who think this is an insult to their share of the human "soul"? are they not dakhele adam? What happens To disrespecting their collective souls?

Are They not intelligent enough to judge the impact of the work of an Artist?

If you or anyone else Don't believe in anything, If you are an atheist or whatever, It really isn't a humane thing to use that as a cover to fire at anyone who is on totally opposit side as you are. To you He may have the same stature as elvis had, but To someone else it ain't so. It is so simplistic for an atheist to say that well, If you are offended by this why don't you go ahead and do the same!!

Why do we have to extent this very simple thing to concepts such as "unchallenged Lies and beliefs" and "backwardness" and at the end conclude the worst about the religious type?

Point taken. However Ali is being promoted as some kind of hero and protector of Iran. That is the lie that must be confronted. Once people learn of what he really did the infallibility will go along with the rest of the myth.

VPK Ali vs. Elvis

by Ari Siletz on

1. Ali too has a lot of followers who are inspired by him as much as by any music.

2. As a warrior and head of state, his repretoire included killing. Truman, Bush or Napoleon killed more people than Ali.

3. Deconstructing Ali's infallibility could be a successful artistic effort for those who promote secularism in Iran. Attacking his tactics as a military general may sound hypocritical to his followers.

I will spell it out because it is the weekend and I don't have anything better to do.

You said that what I was saying was "hate speech" and implied I could be prosecuted. I replied that I live in the USA and it is perfectly legal. Hala Fahmidi?

WHEN DID I EVER THREATEN YOU? that was my question. Can you not read english? and why, instead of debating arguments, you attack the writers?

Right. I am NOT afriad of your threats. Don't you understand english? Do I need to write it in Arabic for you to understand? Sorry don't speak Tazi.

Respect is earned.

by Babak_SD on

Respect is earned.  It cannot be forced for long.

When a religion (not in its true sense, but as practiced in Islamic countries of middle east mainly) does not respect human beings one cannot demand respect.

Most people respect the likes of Nelson Madela or Ghandi irrespective of their religion of nationality.  The same cannot be said about Islam and its holy figures and thats a shame.

Islam was once a great religion of God which made tremendous contributions to humanity.

IF SO

by seamorgh on

it seems like freedom of speech is only sacred when it is on your side. I recall how iranian.com filtered my post because apparently is was “insulting.”For all of those worshiping the US, in the US, if you have even said anything pro NAZI or communism, you cannot become a US citizen. Also, if you have ever said anything against israel, you cannot become anything (de facto)... Also, it is illegal to use "obscene" language in front of women and children. There are tons of other ways free speech is restrained in the US. Do a little research and you will see. So there goes your "absolute" freedom of speech argument in the US.  BY the way, why do you feel so insecure VPK. Whatever I say you feel like I am threatening you. How did I ever threaten you? Oh, I see. Whenever you cannot defend you case using words and logic, you cry faul to distract attention from your sheer …. Good move. Did you learn that Mousavi? By the way, VPK, since when have you become the representative of everybody else in Iranian.com? Was there a vote that I missed??

Veiled Prophet of Khorasan

Re: Ali is no different than Elvis

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

Yes he is:

  • Elvis could sing and put on a really good show.
  • Elvis did not murder people
  • Elvis is on Mar; Ali put respectully somewhere a lot warmer.

Ari Siletz

Ali is no different than Elvis

by Ari Siletz on

This is the message I take away from the above work. Presenting the idea respectfully mangles the impact of this artistic statement. Which is disrespectful of the human soul.

Would it be too much to ask for this challenge to take place in a respectful manner?

Does Rediculing and Making fun constitute a form of challenge to you even though it is free, and Legal?

I'm a great fan of SpicyJihad

by ramintork on

It is for the Artists to challenge taboos and SpicyJihad does a good job of it.

Historical Ali is very different from the Iranian reinvention of Ali as a manifestation of Rustam.

To say that you should not challenge the sacred is to say do not question ignorance.

Keep in mind that Khamenei uses the same moto i.e. to challenge him or the doctrine of Khomeini is to challenge the sacred. If challenging the sacred means you challenge murder, torture, corruption, Human rights then we should challenge the sacred.

We deserve Historical justice, and we challenge the lies that have been left unchallenged for centuries.

Thank you SpicyJihad, you are are funny and provide a good service.

Insulting

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on

I don't feel insulted so seanj: speak for yourself. Ali killed a lot of Iranians. The real insult came from Ali and his band of Arabs not from JJ or from Spicy. I rather these articles than wholesale slaughter of Iranians as done by Ali and the rest of the invaders.

Read history. Real history not Islamic Shiite propaganda. It is all recorded for anyone to read. Then decide who insulted whom. The mullahs are lying to you!

I've watched the Zeitgeist Religion as well. Don't tell anyone, I'm a pirate ! Who's not?  >;)

I bet you've heard this too: Akhey, don't curse khomeini, he is a "seyyed" ! How brainwashed is that!? This was my granny's reaction back in early days of the revolution. Occasionally I loved to carry on and get her angry, at this point she used to grab the broom and chasing me around. I reckon akhoonds were some sort of popstars of her generation.

My mom wasn't religious but now she is aged and her fear of death and residency in hell impel her to close deals with god by going to Mecca. On the other hand my dad was a devoted communist who spent couple of years in jail during Shah's regime BUT he always drove in American cars and he believed the GE home appliances were the best!! They really opened my eyes. And me? The science. Although nowadays the science too is not that innocent. So, I just try to evolve as much as my mind is capable of.

We need to learn from these guys. They do not follow any religion, philosophy or doctrine and live in total harmony. I'm amazed by them:  //www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwATgYaEku4

Indeed, Last Temptation is a masterpiece.  I have watched it many times.  I remember when it first came out on video, I went to rent it from a video store.  I was told that because of the threats by the Christian nuts to rent and destroy the tapes, I had to put a $250.00 deposit on the tape!  So, I did...on one my first credit card.  I remember thinking to myself at the time that we left Iran to get away from religious nuts, and I have to deal with these nuts here.  On my way out of the video store, there was a group of them sitting on the sidewalk holding signs protesting the video store.  I felt like saying something, but then I remembered that it's their right to protest, and plus I wasn't sure that they were the ones who had made the threats.

Anyway, watch this video about Jesus.  It's great, and even mentions Persia.

BTW, to this day, whenever I tell my mom that I'm an atheist, she responds by saying "estaghferella, you used to be such a good boy.  :-)))

As a devotee of Spicy Jihad historical and biographical documentaries I was disappointed that Amir-al-Momenin's authorship of the self-help book Nahj al-Balagheh was omitted from this otherwise well-researched narrative. Even before his fateful encounter with Christiane Amanpour, Amir-al-Momenin's best seller betrayed a tendency towards despair, misery and depression:

"O' people what I fear most about you are two things - acting according to desires and extending of hopes. "

Good one. I laughed my head off.

I liked very much your 1st paragraph. I personally, not only pay to watch those movies but also will be treating you guys as well.

Btw, the Scorsese's Temptation (actually Kazantzakis') is a master piece. It is very refreshing to see ham-velayatis with open minds, eyes and good taste. Not to mention being "out of the closet" (Bill Maher's sort of).

This thread was an absolutle hot topic ..., we need more of them.

Natural born as in Natural Citizen, Native of the land..As opposed to a foreign national that later became a citizen or a green card holder etc…sorry test tube babies and cloning were not yet invented around the years I was born lol

Well I thought so but you said you were natural born American / Iranian. How is that possible? I would understand say Iranian / Afghan if one were born right on the border. But how could this be with both America and Iran. Now maybe you were born in a space craft orbiting earth but then you would be natural born of *many* nations.

Another possibility is if the territory got taken over from one nation by the other. But that is a long stretch. No territory has changed hands to my knowledge (I ought to know after all I am a prophet). Unless: you were born in the US Embassy in Iran or vice versa. Is that it? Please enlighten me.

More videos like this on the life of Prophet Muhammad and the other 13 Imams should be made.

Congrats to Spicy Jihad for a very very funny animation. The "al-Kafer" move by Ali in the commercial ads are hilarious! And of course Ebi the Lion! And the drug abuse... :)))

Reminded me of South Park episodes about Jesus, Mary, Moses, Mohammad...

This has to be the first time any Islamic figure has been the subject of such biting humor by Iranians for Iranians. Imam Ali is (was) no joke! It was going to happen sooner or later... in the land of the free, where you can make fun of anybody you want, from god to prophets, saints, politicians, celebrities...

Laugh at idols and you will be liberated.

You should take advantage.

My hysterics? Insults?? LOL at what? Who is using words such as "charlatan", "asshole"? Have you lost your mind?

Look who is talking here! Be whatever you want to be. I salute your atheism and RESPECT that too.  What you do not understand is that It is not Okay if someone Tries to impose their beliefs on you, and YOu don't care if they are Humiliated and made Fun of, But It is perfectly Alright if you go around and spew nonsense and insult at those religions! And then you have the audacity to shamelessly claim that You respect them? Despite your meaningless words, Your actions are a Perfect Illustration of Your utter disrespect for them and no It is not just that you are showing your disagreement. You are not gonna fool anybody with that Line.

This is not a question of anyone imposing anything on you. All that is being proposed Is asking for a little respect.

Thank you for all your recommendations. I don't need to stand on a street corner to show what i advocate for. I can find more sophisticated ways in order to do so.

Stop your hysterics, insults and the melodrama.  No one is taking aim at Islam.  I am an atheist.  I don't mind ANY religion being ridiculed or deconstructed.  That being said, I have nothing against people who practice the religion. I don't consider them evil or dumb.  I just disagree with them.  I also do not want any person of any religion imposing his / her views on me. You love Jesus, Moses or Mohamed, good for you.  What's it to me?  as far as I'm concerned, all three of those guys were charlatans.  But that's just my opinion.  You want to disagree, go right ahead.  Make a movie, write a book, set up an internet site, stand on a street corner with a sign.  Advocate your side of the story.  I'm perfectly fine with that, even though I am offended by the whole notion that there was no evolution and that there was a ship that put a pair of all animals on earth in it or some asshole went into a cave and came out with ten poorly written commandments, or another asshole was crucified and came back to life or the third asshole ascended to the sky on a donkey.   I am offended by that nonsense, but I don't mind you saying or believing in them.  because I respect your right to free thought and free expression.  It's about time that you learnt to grow up and respect mine.
